This report is on behalf of my brother who is now schooling abroad. We took out a $16,000 loan from Sallie Mae. We had been asked to pay the monthly payments but we decided to pay off all our balance, which came out to be $16,728.98.

I wrote a check for this amout and sent it to Sallie Mae. in March 6th 2006, I thought we were done with them. On july 31, 2007 we got a letter stating that we owe $546.09, and the monthly balance of $52 that is due Novermber 27th 2012.

I called the company, to explain what this was for and they said it was the remaning balance that was due. How can this be possible if i had asked for what we owed and you gave us a statement with the amount of what we owed. They are claiming we never asked for the full amount owed on the loan.

How can you send someone a bill of what they owed and then in the futuer claim that was not the full amount. I mean if we could pay off the $16,728 why will we not want to pay $546. I keep getting bounced around with no real answer. It seems like FRAUD to me.
