I purchased a fluorescent mirror light with a desk clamp for $42 from this merchant's eBay store on 11/21/2013. I used it as a desk lamp, quite sparingly. On March 27, for no reason, the light inside emitted a loud "pop" while the light was on and smoke filled the room. Later I disassembled the light to find that the bulb had burst and gotten so hot that it cracked its housing.

It was beyond the 30-day eBay warranty period, so I couldn't open a case. However, a lamp is supposed to last longer than four months of normal use -- especially a fluorescent one, which is supposed to use far less power and generates far less heat. It is also not supposed to pose a danger to life and limb during normal use. This was a shoddy product, and I was lucky it didn't harm me or my family.

I contacted the seller through eBay messages. I asked to ship it back for either a replacement and pay shipping. I offered to email photos of the damaged lamp. Or, if they had a more reliable/less dangerous model for more money, I offered to just pay the difference and upgrdte.

The response I got was "Unfortunately, we will not be able to honor the warranty at this time. We apologize for the inconvenience. Sincerely, Liz H."

Because the defect in the light wasn't apparent until four months later (when it exploded all over the place), I left postiive eBay feedback that now cannot be changed.

Well, Liz H., not cooperating with reasonable customers is never a smart thing to do when a truthful review on a site like this could have been avoided so easily.

Now it's my turn to apologize for YOUR inconvenience, and to wish you good luck with your exploding lamps and tremendous customer service.

You bought it on EBAY. You have no idea if the item had been used previously. AFter 30 days what were you expecting them to do? Just give your your way no matter what?? You went with  cheap and thats what you got. I would suggest that YOU contact the manufacturer and NOT the seller. You MAY have a remedy there. But odds are it was just a bad bulb, the SELLER has no control over the QUALITY of the bulb as THEY did not make it.

Its the usual self entitlment that the American Consumer has. There is no real ripoff here. As it is a light bulb, it could have been broken by just having a gnat or moth land on it. Heres a thought, did you EVER think that there MAY be another reason for the bulb burning out?? No, why use your brain and those critical thinking skills when you can just run on the web and WHINE. Even a small power surge can cause damages. But why THINK at all!!! IT MUST BE THEIR FAULT!!!!

Do you work at being that blind or is it a "special" gift?? It didnt pose a danger to "Life and Limb" it was just a bad bulb. I swear you drama hags have such a way of playing the victim. Not giving you your way 4 months after your purchase is NOT bad customer service. Its just them NOT giving you your way.
