Just a heads-up to those who live in the North East Texas area who are looking for a car or truck who don't have perfect credit. Do NOT go to 5 Star Ford in North Richland Hills. I went there in late November with my girlfriend and we looked at a decent Ranger. It was within my budget and I had no forclosures or bankruptcies on my credit. Yes, I do have some black marks. My credit isn't the best in the world because of what happened after Sept. 11th, but I could well afford that Ranger. We couldn't get an answer that day because it was a Saturday, so I was told Monday or Tuesday for certain. Well, it was Thursday evening before my salesman, Ephraim Vivar finally told me the answer was a resounding "no". He even went so far as to tell me that his finance manager "Skip" said that he thought I was about to STEAL that vehicle!! Ephraim Vivar also said that he was still looking for lenders the last time I talked to him and he he would let me know soon what he could do. Did I hear anything?? Hell no! Listen people, this is really really bad customer service. And to be accused of being a thief is the ultimate in bad customer service. I am extremely angry at Sam Pack's 5 Star Ford and feel I have been dealt with quite badly. And to top it all off, Ephraim Vivar was my friend. I will never again set foot on that car lot, and have already let several people know about Sam Pack's 5 Star Ford's customer service practices. So, heads up! If you are wealthy, please stop by. If not, don't bother. You'll only end up not only disappointed, but actually insulted.

Sounds like salesmen are only looking for slam-dunk sale...

***On a side note, I want to apologize to my friend Chris. In my first rebuttal, I made some statements that should have been taken up personally and not in the public forum. I didn't have all the information, and I really hurt my friends feelings. I have alienated my friend and we have not spoken since, which is really unfortunate for all involved. Chris is a great guy, and is missed by all members of my family. The problem he experienced was his and not mine. I should have stopped at the end of Gerald and Cindy's info, and taken my personal thoughts up with him in person where I could explain them. Chris I am sorry.***

Based on the sound of things, it seems that some salesmen are only looking for the slam-dunk sale. With the state of the economy at this moment in time, some salesmen are getting lazy. It doesn't seem that they are willing to go that extra mile to make a sale. It is unfortunate for the dealerships, because they are missing some sales. There are people out there like Chris, Gerald & Cindy, Linda, and myself who try to keep the business within the neighborhood and help keep the local economy strong. Salesmen need to realize this and always make the best effort to please their customers, because if they don't the customer will always go elsewhere. Why is it that we should have to drive to Grapevine or other far away places to get the best deal and service? It is because the sales staff in the far away places are hungry, and willing to try to land every deal that hits their desk. Some you win, some you lose, but at least they give their best effort.

I have worked around the car sales business for a number of years in my lifetime, and it is a very vicious society. My advise is to pick your own salesman, don't resort to being an "UP". In the sales world, salesmen take turns, and everyone who comes onto the lot is an UP. Sometimes you have salesmen who hover the lot like a vulture, and pounce on you when you first hit the lot, my advise is to avoid this guy. He is looking for the easy sale, and is often weak on follow-thru. However, you don't want the guy who is sitting in the corner picking his nose and examining the result either. When you hit the lot, tell the vulture you are just looking. When you find what you are interested in, look over the salesmen on the floor and approach the one that you feel will be most helpful. And if you experience problems, by all means consult with the sales manager. It is his job to solve all problems if he can.

Pick a salesman like you would pick a car, and you will probably have a better experience...Good luck and happy shopping!

I feel your pain Chris. I to went to Sam Pack's Five Star Ford to purchase a vehicle. I spoke with the salesman, told him what I was looking for, they didn't have it, but told me that they would try to get one and would call the next day. The saleman didn't call, so I called and he said that they hadn't had a chance to check and that he would call me the next day. Again, he didn't call. I called him again. The salesman advised that he would get back with me the next day. I contacted another dealership and they didn't have one either, but next day they got one and I'm driving it now. The salesman at Sam Pack's Five Star Ford called me back about a month later asking if I was still looking for a new vehicle. Looks like Sam Pack's Ford is a sleeper and doesn't care about making sales. I certainly won't call on them up again.

Gerald and Cindy were totally satisfied with the service provided by Ephrain Vivar

I have been requested to file a rebuttal on the behalf of Gerald and Cindy Cook, as they do not have internet access.

My name is Rick, and I live next-door to Ephraim, and I am also good friends with Chris. Gerald and Cindy, also good friends of mine recently purchased a 2003 F150 Extended Cab pickup from Mr. Vivar. They were very happy with the service provided by Mr. Vivar, and found him to be very helpful in fulfilling their desire to have a new truck. Mr. & Mrs. Cook went to Ephraim to get a new vehicle to drive to Pennsylvania for a funeral. It was a Saturday morning, and they were not sure that their old mini-van would make the trip. With this in mind, Ephraim did everything within his ability and delivered the truck to them that day. He even called them back to the dealership two weeks later to have the truck detailed, and continues to send them notes asking how their truck is running, and are they happy with the product.

Now, for a little background info on Chris. Chris is a hard-working gentleman who is the room-mate of another good friend of mine. He, like alot of people in this world does not have perfect credit. However, how many times is 9-11 gonna be blamed for something? You cannot blame an event for your bad credit! Chris also does not have a Texas drivers license, nor did he have any proof of residence in Texas when he applied for credit to get the truck he wanted. What I mean by this is, he had no lease paperwork, or a rental agreement to show himself to be a Texas resident. He showed up to the dealership with a North Carolina license, questionable credit, and no proof of residence in Texas. If you were a Finance Person, would you put your name and reputation at stake to give this man a truck? The answer would be, probably not. Being that Ephraim was a friend of Chris', he did not want to have to go to him and tell him this information. Ephraim is guilty of trying to spare his friend's dignity, and failed his friend via lack of communication.

The only problem that Chris should have with Ephraim is lack of communication. Ephraim is not responsible for Chris' bad credit, lack of proof of residence, or his negligence in obtaining a Texas license.

In my opinion, Chris is at fault for not consulting a sales manager when he felt he had a problem with Ephraim. That is the appropriate way to deal with this problem. For him to make this post, slamming Ephraim and the dealership, when he hadn't gone through the proper channels is not fair to Ephraim or the dealership. It is the equivilent of kicking a man's dog because you are angry with the man.

Ephraim is a hard-working salesman, who also made salesman of the month for February. Achievements of that degree are not made by ripping people off.

Please, don't hold Ephraim or 5 Star Ford responsible for this disgruntled persons "sour grapes". There were at least a hundred other ways for Chris to have handled this situation, and yet he chose none of them. I feel that he chose the most childish way to handle his feelings. How can you be ripped off if you didn't buy anything.

My advise to you Chris, is get your own affairs in order. Get a Texas license, get some proof you live here, pay your bills ontime.........and by all means, GROW UP!!

They make money only if they can get you financed

#8Consumer Comment

Any business can only make money if they get paid for the product you purchase. If there was anyway they could have gotten you financed they would have. Do not blame them for your bad credit. If you need a vehicle go to a place that specializes with prople that have earned their bad credit rating. Yes, you will pay more and the interest rate will be sky high, but here again that is your fault, not theirs.
