on may 19, 02, I purchased a Troy Built lawn tractor from Sam's club, purchasing the 3 year extended warranty. the following summer it went to the service center for much of the summer..

On June 23, 04 the hydrostat transmission went out.. at which time I called the extended warranty number. speaking to Ashley. to be given the run around.. on the 24th I called again, speaking to Rick, with more run around.

On the 28th, I spoke with Dan who made arrangements for the service center to pick up the lawn tractor.

On July, 7 I called the service center to check on how the Tractor was coming along.. was told they couldn't do anything to it untill the warranty people faxed them authorization. I called the warranty people again getting Erin,(who I find out later is a supervisor) she expressed concern and would take care of this immediately.

On Aug. 24, I called the service center again to check on getting the tractor.. the grass is getting high.. was told they still had not gotten the authorization..
called the warranty people again, rather upset, got Erin again, she told me they were working on a buy out instead of repairing the tractor since the cost of repair was 80% of the new cost of the tractor..

on the 26th I called the warranty people back, talked to Brian, was told they were going to fix the tractor... ask to speak to Erin... she said she would check into it..

On the 30th, I called the service center.. they told me they would not fix the tractor they were tired of the warranty people messing them around, and that they hadn't been paying for repairs they had already done..

so I called the Warranty people, spoke with Clarence, telling him what the service center has told me.. he tells me he will check on it... I ask to speak with Erin. She tells me the man who makes the decision says there will be no buy out... and the tractor will be repaired by a service center in Terre Haute.

Sept. 14, I call the service center who has my mower to see if the other service center had picked it up.. NO they had not... I called the Warranty People and spoke with Jamie, who informed me the first service center was going to "dump it out at my place and the other service center can pick it up>" Really a nasty attitude...

Tommorrow I will be filing suit in small claims court..
I hope this will help someone else...

The policy is, if you purchase an extended warrenty then, yes you need to contact the warrenty people. The tractor is under a limited time warrenty through Sam's club. However, if the limited is up then follow the correct steps!.. Read the warrenty information that is available at the club.

yeah, I also work at the Sam's club in Green Bay. I'm a COS, and I have been with the company for many years. I have seen a refund on a product that had been over 5 years old. In fact last week we had a member come into the club with a television that they had bought in 97 and the picture in the television went out. They said that they were unsatisfied with the quality of the product and wanted a Refund of the Television and of there membership. remember if you refund your memebership which you can have done it does hurt the company seriously, that is what they depend on. Our manager didn't want to give the guy ther refund of the television at first but once the guy said that he would keep his membership as long as her would excange the television for a new one he would be fine. So our manager did. You try to do that at any other store and you will get laughed at. Sam's has a 100% return policy and they need to stick to it or the General Manager could loose his job due to not complying with corporate policies.

John,
We will be talking about it in court Dec. 21, 04..
I'm tired of playing with them...
I have not renewed my membership, and am spreading the word about the treatment I have gotten..
It seems like everything you buy these days is junk and no one wants to make it good...
Answer?? quit buying it....
Thanks for your advise, but, it don't always work..

Get Tough

Ken: You are just not being tough enough. I have seen Sam's give a refund on a push type power mower that was at least 5 or 6 years old because the customer wouldn't take no for an answer and wanted to talk to corporate headquarters right from the store. Think about it. You bought the warranty from SAM'S CLUB. You paid for it at SAM'S CLUB!! SAM'S CLUB sold you a defective mower AND a defective warranty. They should make it right. One more tip. Don't mess with customer service-demand to see the store manager-if he is not there don't take your problem up with anyone else, find out when he is working and go back. Good Luck.

In response to John, they informed me that I should take it up with the extended Warranty People..

John, I did go back to the store.. they informed me that I should take it up with the extended Warranty People..

I have tried to do it as I have been instructed, by their rules...

And the last person I talked to, "Jamie" was very rude and had a attitude that was not customer friendly...

Your suggestion didn't work in Indiana...

What's wrong with you man? I worked for Sam's Club for years, a company thay will usually bend over backwards to take care of their customers.(after all you pay for the privelege of shopping there and they want to keep you as a member) Take the mower and warranty back to the s
Sam's where you bought it and demand your money back. At the very least take your warranty and receipt for the mower yo the Manager of the store and tell him you want this taken care of. Bet you get results.
