I purchased a Samsung 46-inch LCD TV in July 2007.  After about 18 months, the TV has no picture.  Samsung customer service will not do anything about it except remind you that it is outside the warranty period and provide the number of a local TV repair shop.

Internet posts indicate that the problem is quite common in Samsung LCD TVs after 1 to 2 years of purchase.  The cost of repair is as much as the cost of a new TV.

Is it unreasonable to expect that a big-ticket item like this will last more than a year? It is surprising that given their brand name, Samsung is doing nothing to fix this issue.  I am not buying a Samsung product again.
