Complaint Review:
San Antonio Eye Center PA
On 09/13/2011 I received an eye examination from Dr David Abrams, at San Antonio Eye Center PA, requesting evaluation/treatment of my Diabetic Retinopathy and progress of a membrane that was growing on my optic nerve. Before beginning the examination one of his assistants informed me that if I wanted a Refractive examination and new glasses prescription there would be an additional $ 30.00 charge. I refused this examination stating that my HMO (Humana Gold Plus) covered one examination per year. She stated they did not accept that so I again declined a refractive exam. I received an exam from Dr Adrams, who gave me some OTC eyedrops samples and sent me on my way. I did not receive a glasses Rx during or after the visit.
On 11/04/2011 I received a bill from San Antonio Eye Center for $ 30.00 for the above Refractive Exam. I telephoned the eye center, and spoke with a lady I think identified herself as Judith. She informed me I had indeed received the exam and a prescription, and was liable for the charge. When I informed her I had not, she refused to discuss it and threatened to report me to credit collection if I didnt pay promptly.
I did not consent to the Refractive Examination, I verbally refused my consent, yet Dr Abrams is billing me and insisting payment for a service he did not perform, or I think was legally able to perform (as in without my consent)
