Vacation renters beware! Strongly do not recommend. This was our first time using Sandcastle. As context we've been renting summer vacation homes on MV for more than 30 years. Be aware & careful - unreasonable, inflexible "standard policy" practice at Sandcastle with strict 16% cancellation fee policy even after property is re-rented to another customer.

We rented a house for a month and had to cancel due to a cross-country work relocation. Even after consideration for a full refund from the owner Meghan, she surprised us (over email) that she'd be keeping 16% (in our case $1600) even after re-renting the property. She copy/pasted text from the lease pointing to their "standard policy."

With my wife pregnant with our third child and our work relocation scheduled to accommodate her due date this summer, there is also a human element here worth considering beyond business.

I would only encourage future renters to be think twice before choosing Sandcastle. I also think it's reasonable to consider a more flexible cancellation policy to accommodate a range of refund options especially in instances where you have re-rented at profit. Your 16% cancellation policy is obviously designed to take monetary advantage of a family's unforeseen change in plans.

I am not sure I understand the issue here.  Does the writer think the employees of this company should work for free?  They have already done the work and been paid and now, even though the guidelines were clear you want your money back?  Since the employees are paid through fees, should the company take the entire hit?  I have no idea what your job is and doubt you would work for free.
