Sandy Sansing Chrysler Suckered me into a 3,200 down payment for my trade in. Pensacola Florida
Myself and finace' went to Sandy Sansing Chrysler to look at new cars. We had a Mini Cooper to trade in with a 24,000 payoff and it was a 2004 with low mileage.
The people there, sales man and finacial person said that even though we were silghtly upside down, they would absorb the cost as a new 2006 300 Touring car would have ALOT of cash back as they needed to move all 2006 vehicles.
We thought that was great, but where concerned about the 3,200 down paymnet, but we reluctantly paid. Our payments are 608 per month and guess what....this car went down in value as soon as we drove it off the lot...(alot of cars lose some value at that time)to the tune of 7,000.The NADA book retail for this with the low mileage is 22,500 and we have a loan (good credit) of 30,000...that's after the down paymnet!!
So, these flunkies at this dealership not only capatalized on the 3,200 down, the capatalized on the 30,000 loan..we soon found out..by other dealers in the pensacola area!
I have spoken to other people were I work at that owns the 300's and they seem to say the same thing...this car is not of a quality in nature...made by flunkies at the union plants and the dealers only goal is NOT customer satisfaction, but to move metal...that's it.
I should have known this at the time but I wanted out of the MINI and they did in fact take advantage of that fact!
I have worked in the automotive supplier indstry for 23 years and am currently a Quality Engineer so I know about customer satisfaction and quality standards.
Sandy Sansing Chrysler is the worst and I doubt any of his othe r dealerships in Pensacola are any better..as they do not believe in customer satisfaction at all!!

I want to educate car buyers why this would happen. This may not have been explained well at time of purchase for this customer but I hope it can help when it comes time for others when purchasing a car.
When you owe more on your car than it is worth, the extra money that is owed has to go into the new loan. For instance if you owe $15,000 and the car is worth $10,000, you have to add $5000 into new loan.
Now, a bank will only loan so much money for a car based on MSRP or NADA value. So if a dealership is selling a car for $12,000 but it is worth $15,000 then you can put $3000 of your extra $5000 into the loan. The extra $2000 would require that you put down a deposit of $2000 to swallow that amount in order for the bank to finance $15000.
And there are other factors of why a deposit could be required as well but I hope this explains one reason why a dealership would need a deposit. I sincerely hope it helps any one else in the market for buying a car.

The way I look at it, as a manager and former sales associate, is its the responsibility of the consumer to save as much as possible and the sales persons responsibility to make as much as possible. Remember that sales people work off commission only. If they gave everybody a great deal, they would starve. Do research before you make the second biggest purchase most people make. The time it took you to write this article, you could have done a little research about your trade and what to buy. All dealer incentives are on the internet. So is NADA, Blue Book and even the invoice can be found on that wonderful thing we all know as the internet. My point here is,don't blame the dealer if you like the car enough to buy it with no research, All I can tell you is make the payment, pay it off this time and before you buy again, GET SMART!!!!!!! Besides if you owed 24,000 dollars on a 2 or 3 year old Cooper, you were got twice!!! Hope you see me for your next purchase.

I know this is an old post that just was recently updated. Hopefully the OP could clear something up.
The OP was David from Pensacola FL talking about something that happened to him and his fiancee. Yet in two following posts another David from Pensacola(who is identified as the Author) talks about the OP in the third person as if he is talking about someone else. Then David from Pensacola identifies himself as an Individual and goes off laying out a bunch of insults.
Could there be two(or more) Davids in Pensacola, possibly. Or is there some other issues that we don't know about with a single David?

EVERYONE IN THE COUNTRY KNOWS THAT YOU WILL BE UPSIDE DOWN IN A VEHICLE WHEN YOU TAKE DELIVERY, EVEN IF YOU PAY CASH. MINI COOPERS ARE NO EXCEPTION TO THE RULE. WHY WOULD YOU BLAME THE DEALER FOR TAKING ADVANTAGE OF YOU?? DID YOU EVER CONSIDER THAT THE LENDING INSTITUTE HAS GUIDE LINES AND/OR STIPULATIONS THAT ARE REQUIRED? WHY IS IT ALWAYS THE DEALER THAT DOES THE WRONG? MANY TIMES PEOPLE WILL FALSIFY THEIR INCOME TO IMPROVE THEIR CHANCES OF RECEIVING THE LOAN, BEEN THERE DONE THAT. IT IS TRUELY SAD THAT MOST OF THE TIME WE SELF INFLICT THE WOUNDS, BUT WANT TO POINT BLAME ELSEWHERE. THE NEXT TIME YOU PURCHASE A VEHICLE PLEASE BE SURE TO WEIGH ALL OPTIONS AND ALSO CONSIDER THE FOLKS THAT YOU ARE CURRENTLY TRASHING, AFTER ALL THEY HELPED YOU ONCE TO GET OUT...

To Cory of San Antonio, TX.....I do have street smarts and book smarts that's true....however if you want to lay down the insults, I have a few things to say about San Antonio, TX...let's see, Toyota plant that has just opened up there...you people in Texas are a bunch of broke d**k little people who would sell your own mother let alone tha American dream....you must be some wanna be border jumoping freak who knows nothing about the automobile world!
Let me tell you all...from Texas to New York to Virginia....
When an individual goes to a dealrship with high expectations about this dealership then you lay your guard down.
The MINI Cooper that was a trade was an "S" Type and I was assured that the cash back incentives would cover this MINI for being upside down...OK, so let's see, the big man should have done his hoework, but usually I trust more so "nowa days" and this was a mistake.
Usually a vehicle..brand new ..the Chrysler 300 2006 with 86 miles on it, this was the car pruchased and I find it hard to believe that these people did all they could to assist us in our situation...you know the 3,20 went into the flunky sales mans pocket...and there really was no dealership cash back as they said..it only was made to believe this...now if a Chrysler vehicle depresiates that much going off the l;ot then they should sell...oh thats right, they are selling Chrysler. Now for the Japs and Toyota, they should be lucky that this regime (Bush) does not charge them tariffs like they do the South Koreans and Hyundai!!
Toyota is over exposed and if you people did your homework you would know that the Japanese keeps their $$ in Japan...in fact if you are familar with the fatcs you would know this...point being, the japs will build very few plants here in the USA...they doi not currently have hardly any at all which means we import 70% of those Toyotas from Japan to here....do you people see the big picture..it all is about rip offs and greed and the honest consumer loses again!
I for one won't sell out my country and will contiue to slander Sandy Sansing and his dealrships twisted ways...I still believe that thre's an honest dealership out there, insted of COKE Headed dealership sales people like we have here in Pensacola!
So people, put up or shut the @#%$@# up...you read me!

Rip off in Pensacola

I somewhat agree with the consumer that got ripped off...but he should have done his homework...I to have been taken advantage of with dealerships....and have lived to regret it.
I know about Sandy Sansing and would not buy a car there for asnything!
Guys, I think that you should try and understand this mans dillema...there is no such thing as customer service and If you are caught upside down in your vehicle that you are trading in, be prepared to pay a high price to get out!
My advice to this person who got ripped, do what I did from Sandy Sansing Nissan, let them repo the vehicle.
I had a 720 credit becon score and when it was repoed, it eventually went down to 680.
This does not phase me in the least and after they sold this burden to someone else (financial institution sold it at a lein sale.
They just wrote off the balance of the vehicle..(charge off)
I will not go to Sandy Sansing again....and just to let you people know, a Quality Engineer at a Tier 1 automotive supplier has nothing to do with dealrships and their greedy ways....just the quality of vehicles and the quality of the parts that they make...

You bought a "New" 2006 car. the second you signed the note, it became a 2 model year old "used" car. That is why the value has dropped so much.
a 2004 Mini cooper is not worth anywhere near 24K, and you had to pay to make up for some of the negative equity. I took a quick look at Kelly Blue Book and a 2004 Mini cooper S with 40K miles is worth 16.5K trade in. That is almost 8K in negative equity, and if the car was not an "S" it is only worth 14K.

You've "worked in the automotive supplier indstry(?) for 23 years" yet you don't seem to know much about the new/used vehicle market. You quote the NADA book RETAIL value of $22,500. The problem with that figure is you're quoting retail. Do you actually think they're "giving" you retail? Trade-in value is probably more like $16 to $17,000.
With rebates and such, applied to the new vehicle and with dealer actual cost and holdbacks, they probably "gave" you more like $15,000. All told, they probably made between $8 and $10,000 on this deal. Maybe more if they can retail your cooper, which I doubt. It'll probably go to auction.
Last vehicle I purchased at $30,000, cost me $515 per month but that was a 3.75%, with no money down. I went to the dealer, did the deal and then handed him a check for the full amount from my bank. Mony is more "expensive" now, loans cost arount 5.95% or more. YOU allowed yourself to be suckered into this deal. You should have done your homework BEFORE you went to the dealer. Some of those automotive sites actually give you depreciation figures by year as well as cost to operate.
As for the quality of the vehicle, if you've been in the "automotive supplier indstry for 23 years" none of these fact ought to have come as a surprise to you of all people. Why do you think toyota outsold GM for the first time in history? Read an interesting article the other day. It's main point was the highest paid executive at toyota makes no more then SIX TIME the lowest paid. Where the highest paid executive at GM or Ford makes about SEVEN THOUSAND TIMES the lowest paid. The point being the japanese company sink the extra money into quality and design. Lord, you stated you are currently a quality engineer, all book smarts and no street knowledge.

First of all this individual from New York, you did not read all the way through did you?
I did and I read that the dealer said that the slightly upside down balance of negative equity will be taken care of through the very good amount of cash back for this 2006 300, this is so typical with car dealers, taking advantage of the hard working consumer so they can push metal and make some chump change!
Of course this did not happen and the consumer eventually realized this is their haste to get out of the Mini Cooper. so New York or anyone else following this person rebuttle, read all the way through the report and try and read between the lines, if you know how to read.

1- You traded in a three-year-old vehicle which was worth less than what you owed on the loan (hence the $3,200 that you refer to as a "down payment").
2- You turned around and bought another vehicle with a considerably high depreciation rate ... and are trying to blame the dealer??
Nearly every car loses value the second it is driven off the lot. Why do you think that yours is so special that it should hold its value or perhaps even increase? Your lack of information does not constitute a rip off by the car dealer.
