When I was on vacation, I purchased a bracelet from a store and had asked quite a few questions about the bracelet before purchasing it. I asked if the bracelet was made of solid sterling silver, if the brass in the bracelet (besides the silver) would tarnish on my wrist. I was informed that none of this would happen and was assured when the sales clerk handed me the warranty card on the bracelet indicating if something should go wrong with the bracelet to contact the company. This is backed up with the company.

After wearing the bracelet for less than a month, the bracelet started to tarnish. I contacted Sausalito Design by sending the bracelet back with a letter in regards to what had happened.

Sausalito sent me back my tarnished bracelet and told me that it was not sterling silver. They told me I had to handle the situation with the store where I had purchased the bracelet. I argued with them telling them this is their product and they should back it up and replace the bracelet or refund my money for the bracelet. They insisted on not complying to any of this. Again, told me I had to go to the store where the bracelet was purchased. I said I was on vacation when I bought the bracelet and I don't remember the name of the store but did have their warranty card should anything ever happen to the bracelet.

I cannot believe that a company inwhich has been in business since 1974, could possible not take responsibility for their own merchandise.

I will never do business with this company ever again. I want to let anyone and everyone know this is a company that does not stand up to their promise.

He indicated to me that the situation was handled unprofessional. We were able to resolve all issues pertaining to this complaint. Read The Web Site/Warranty

Went To Sausalito's web site. On it, it says their warranty is for for breakage. They say that their silver bracelets are sterling(.925%), are varnished, and when the varnish wears off the bracelet will tarnish. On their web site, it says to remove tarnish, a polishing cloth or some other method must be used.

As for replacing the bracelet, there is nothing faulty with the bracelet. If they gave you a new one the same thing would happen over again. As for giving you your money back, it's kind of like buying a new car. You have trouble with that car. You take it back to another dealer and say"I want my money back." Why should the second dealer have to take the loss when the first dealer made the profit?

If you go into the website for Sausalito, www.sausalitodesign.com, you will see why the advertised jewelry reassured me in purchasing the bracelet. Don't advertise if you can not back up the merchandise or replace it.

Several Things Wrong

There are several things wrong with your post. Silver jewelry is made of sterling silver which is .925% silver. The other can be brass, copper, nickel or whatever. All silver will tarnish. When you buy it at the store the jewelery is usually chrome plated, rhodium plated or clear varnished so it looks nice when you buy it. As the plating wears off the silver tarnishes as silver does. Now I know you aren't happy with a bracelet made by Sausalito. Sausalito has no control over what the salesperson says. They don't even know what the saleperson told you. The part that gets me is you paid your money to that company. If you aren't satisfied with the bracelet deal with that company. They are the ones who got your money. I deal with people who go on vacations all the time and buy jewelry and when their merchandise fails to live up to their standards there is not anyone to be held accountable that they can reach. See it all the time.
