Let me explain my situation. I am moving out of my apartment and need to cancel the DSL service. I call the customer service at 1-800-310-2355 to see that I can cancel the service early or transfer it. I was told that there is a $200 fee for early cancellation and I can not pay the remaining months. I was a little irritated, but ok with it since the place I move to has SBC and I can just transfer my services. I told the customer representative that I don't have the address yet, but I can get it in a few days. The representative told me to go ahead and cancel it and call back within one month to reopen the services. The representative told me the $200 will refund back to me and I can have the same service again.
Little did I know when I called back to transfer the services I get a different rate of more than $30 a month and I have to restart the contract again. I told her the first representative had given me the information. If I known this I would have got the new address and transfer the services instead of closed it. I than ask to talk to the manager but the representation told me the manager will call me back.
About 4 hours later I got a call back from Sara (will not give out last name) telling me the same thing that I have to pay $30 a month and restart the contract. I explained to her again that I was told differently from the first representative. Sara told me she sorry that the representative given me the wrong information. I explain to her that I still have a few days before moving out of the apartment and if I have known this I would have waited a few days and transfer when I have the address. I also asked her that how it is that I had to pay for a mistake that was made by SBC representative.
She agreed that it was the representative fault but I still have to pay the $200 or transfer it with a new contract of $30 a month. I have a conversation with Sara on June 23, 2006 at 7:20. She told me that it can be traced back if I provided the time and date. I asked her as a manager can she help me with this and all she can say was sorry. She told me she didn't have the authority to help me and asked me to write a letter to the main SBC office.
So I am writing this letter in hope that some one with the higher authority that can help me solves this unfair charge. I am willing to transfer the service at the same rate that I used to have or pay the final 2 months and cancel the service. I have been happy with SBC service until now. I also have referred a lot of friends and families but after this I don't think I can ever tell anyone anything nice about SBC.
I read some articles on ripoffreport.com and I can see I am not a lone. I hope that I can talk to someone at SBC first to solve this problem before I look for other alternative. I can be reach at my cell phone 714-xxx-xxxx.
Sincerely,
