Website in question offers a free private server that was built from reverse engineering, while this was  not allowed by SEGA or Sonic Team both these entities never showed a concern as this and other private servers advertise the franchise for free, SEGA does not pay in any way for this server to be online.

Now to donation system i wich the server is dependent on, this system is opaque, no values are ever displayed and donations are sometimes asked right after another donation wave, making users doubt as to where the previous money went. Donation is also used to pay for special features on the server such as more experience, however many players complain that they either do not get these benefits or that they receive them for a longer period of time, so money is given but the proper service is not given.

Recently, a scam on the donation system went public, showing trades that have been done under the table, the money went directly to the admin and was never used on the server, keep in mind the game and the franchise belong to SEGA and thse individuals are making profit for themselves.
The donation values also became public, wich indicated that no donations are actually required, the server can be online for years even at the cost of 100$ for month.

All topics on the subjects are deleted and users (even staff members) are removed from the server and forum.
