To say Seagate's drives are unreliable is to be charitable to a fault. I bought a Seagate Momentus drive to replace the original Hitachi drive in my notebook. That original drive lasted more than three years. Seagate replaced it (the replacement) when it failed after two months of use with a refurbished unit. Seagate charged me $20.00 for their kindness in honoring their junk warranty. After three months, and some extraordinary effort to make sure my drive stayed cool, it failed again. I have already called Seagate support four times for this most recent failure. Seagate disconnected me at closing time (6:00 CT) after holding for about 40 minutes on the third (I think) attempt.

Last time, I got escalated to Seagate's tier-2 support. who gave me a few useless suggestions including downloading and installing third-party utilities that were useless in my case (as they should've known had they listened to my situation and been technically competent). Now I am calling Seagate for the 5th time, and have been on hold for more than an hour. Last time they disconnected me (as aforementioned).

Never buy Seagate!!! Ever!!!!
