I purchased a Seagate 200GB ATA hard drive from Outpost.com. The promotion offered a $40.00 rebate. I also told my father about the deal and he, too, purchased one. We both sent our rebates in at the same time, but from different states. His did show, after four weeks, in their system, mine however didn't. After waiting for eight weeks, he received a postcard stating that his rebate was rejected because he needed to submit the original receipt.

He phoned the number listed on the card and got the runaround. Stating that he submitted everything that was required, he hung up in frustration and wrote a letter to the company. To date he has not received his rebate. Anticipating a problem, I tried several times to contact Seagate regarding my rebate, to no avail. Today in my mailbox come to find the same postcard notice stating that my rebate was rejected because of an invalid serial number.

I submitted the required rebate form along with the original UPC code right from the box which has the serial number preprinted on it. I have a scan of everything that I submitted. When I had phoned the rebate deparment originally, there was a message stating that they are behind in processing Seagate rebates. I believe that they are rejecting all rebates for this item under one guise or another as it is too coincidental that both my father and I got the same rebate rejection notices and we both are very thorough in rebate submissions. I phoned the number on the card today and threatened to pursue this as the fraud it is.

Do not buy from Seagate, this is blatant rebate fraud!
