In l994 Purchased a Zennith projection t.v. from Sears Towneast Mall. Received a recall letter stating t.v. a firehazard. Should contact store repair to fix it.

After the part was supposedly fixed the t.v. went out. The convergence adjustmant causes shadows and then the picture simply doesn't exist. 3 times Sears has sent a repairman out and has charge over $300 each time. I have paid over $1000 and the t.v. is still not fixed.

Yesterday, I called Sears. The repair person came here, did not address whether the replaced parts which were to be under a years warranty were bad. He stated it would cost $1,200 to fix the T.V. I just can't imagine that. 3 new color boards or parts were replaced and under warranty.

Sears wants to charge $80 for the service call. I am still paying for a t.v. which I feel is a lemon. Where do I get help with this. I don't even know where to start. The $1000 plus $1200 would be $2200 to get the t.v. repaired. What can be done? I am not paying all that money for repairs and I resent their indifference.

Your problem is just like mine with Pioeer Electronics. The root of the problem is in the quality of the product vs the warranty. My problem with Pioneer started with a $3,000.00 television that crapped out in 5 years. Why does everyone seem to think thats OK. A Consumer Reports survey showed over 30 percent of projection screen televisions breakdown within 5 years. Their report was based on what was reported.

How many people were intimidated or just gave up trying to get their televisions fixed. These large electronics giants are manufacturing poor quality products and putting them on the shelves as fast as they can.

It all looks good until you have nothing to show for it a few years down the road. Example, a washer and dryer cost me 3,000.00, that was 11 years ago and they work hard. My television sits in one spot and broke down. Pioneer's position was we stand by our 1 year warranty and we will not fix it.

I have an idea, lets stop buying their high ticket items until they are willing to back them up. Read my story, its just under this one, you'll be suprised how poorly they treat you once they have your money. Pioneer lost my business for ever. In addition, every news paper in the country will get a copy of my story. Broaderick, you must be very young and unaware that televisions fall in the catagory of a durable good just like my washer/dryer and my 18 year old RCA ColorTrac television.

Any television that doesn't last at least 10 years is a piece of crap and the manufacturers should pay the price.

Sears Home Center Farmers Branch - REALLY A RIP OFF!

ZENITH T.V. WAS NOT 6 YEARS OLD WHEN YOU STARTED CHARGING ME $300 TO $400 A SERVICE CALL AND THE TV LASTED ONLY 2 MONTHS EACH TIME YOU CAME OUT. YOU SAY YOUR PARTS ARE UNDER WARRANTY BUT EVERYTIME YOU CAME HERE YOU WOULD NOT ACKNOWLEDGE THAT ANY OF YOUR WORK OR REPLACEMENTS WERE THE CAUSE OF THE T.V. GOING OUT. ALL YOU WANT IS ANOTHER $300 TO $400 A VISIT AND FOR WHAT? I AM VERY ANGRY THAT YOU CANNT FIX THE T.V. AND THAT YOU HAVE CHARGED ME $300 TO $400 A VISIT. I HAVE PAID YOU AT LEAST $1200 ALREADY TO FIX THE T.V. AND YOU HAVE NOT FIXED IT AND YOU WANT ANOTHER $1200 EVEN THOUGH THE BIG PARTS OF THE T.V. ARE UNDER YOUR WARRANTY. GET A GRIP. YOU OBVIOUSLY CAN'T READ, CAN'T EVEN COMPREHEND MY COMPLAINT. IT IS NO WONDER THE T.V. DOESN'T WORK. I DOUBT ANY OF YOU COULD EVEN READ THE SCHEMATICS FOR A T.V. I AM NOT PAYING ANOTHER $1200 TO YOU FOR YOUR SHODDY WORK. ONCE MORE, WHY WORK FOR A COMPANY SUCH AS SEARS THAT WOULD SEE ME A POOR QUALITY T.V. IN THE FIRST PLACE - SINCE YOU SEEM TO KNOW SO MUCH!

My relationship to the company is I am an employee.

Sears Home Center Farmers Branch Service CTR Rip-off on Zennith

Projection T.V. *REBUTTALS (#4738)

They filed the following rebuttal to the above Rip-Off Report:

Their email: sasha0918@hotmail.com

Their relationship to the company: Devotee

Rebuttal:

My relationship to the company is I am an employee. I am not a "devotee" or anything else. Just going by black & white...on BOTH sides of the coin. First of all, he said he had it worked on after receiving a notice of a problem with this particular set and that is when all of his trouble started.

I work in a Sertvice center and see it everyday when someone wants "everything for nothing"..but this IS NOT his case. Sears had no right to charge him for services redered during a warranty period, if this was the case.

The other side of that coin is, if he did not get in touch with them during the warranty period, THEN & ONLY THEN is it no ones fault but his own. What's the old saying?

"You snooze, you loose"!

Furthermoe, my husband is a third generation owner of a sales & service business for audio/video merchandise and never heard of a such of thing...all brands have their hig end, middle and low end products. Who is to judge what ths person bought?

I don't recall him giving specific info as to the model or anythng else. Just the name brand.

Buy a new TV and quit being a cheapskate.

Rebuttal:

Having worked for Sears and other electronic retailers, I would like to stand up for them on this one. Zenith is known throughout the industry as a low price/low end television. Projection TVs break down on average every 3 years anyway. The average repair cost is $1200. On top of that, Sears did not build that P.O.S., Zenith did. 6 years later you want a

refund? You bought the lowest price tv they sell, it broke down after 6 years and now you are surprised? Customers like you are the reason companies have such tight return policies. Buy a new TV and quit being a cheapskate. There is a reason a higher price TV costs more.

Update: Since Sears Home Center Farmers Branch Service has never fixed the T.V. correctly (It keeps going out after a couple of months) and after the last repairman quoted another $1228.26 I want my money back and my revenge. This is all just bad business. They take and take and take and they don't fix the T.V. What is the matter with these people. Please help me get my money back!
