Sears Home improvement SHIP,Uses subcontractor "The Roofing Company Inc" Sears roof fiasco Longwood , Florida
My name is Craig O in April of the lastyear 2010 I received 3 estimates for roof repair, 2 estimates came in at about 14000.00 One was from Kyco roofing the other from Scott roofing the 3rd est. was from Sears for 16500.00 we decided to go with Sears as they seemed to promise the best warranty and backing up of there product plus being such a big company thought we would have less problems.
My contract clearly stated all wood for patio to be covered and all rotten or damaged wood to be replaced, also contract states # 30 felt paper and double #15 on patio. We were also promised so much more from the salesman that simply did not happen.
Since install we have had nothing but problems most notably there was clearly bad wood that was not replaced, leaks at chimney and large amounts of debris on the ground "Roof shingle aggregate" from asphalt shingles every time it rained.
We had many calls to Sears from day one, we had even been told that we had possible defective shingles prior to 10-5-10 as on this date we were hit with a bad hail storm and roof had some storm damage. We have filed complaints with the BBB and ROC
At this point it is not about the money we just want everyone to know especially now when there are so many roofs being replaced that they can clearly be ripped off or given shoddy work or product just like in are case.
Sears has stated that they did nothing wrong. I have pictures and most if not all the evidence that they lied or the company that they hired did not do what was sold to us.As of 12-17-2010 we had given them every chance to rectify thison 12-18-2010 we had an AC contractor that had to do some AC duct Modifications he immediately called me and stated that the wood in that area was rotten.
Sears roofed over rotten wood which is against code and at this point we were done with Sears, we then hired another contractor to due the roof correctly.
On 1-17-2011 Glendale roofing started the tear off during this point it was clear that Sears shingled over more than one place of rotten wood we had to replace 18 sheets of bad wood not acceptable as the roof was just done6 months ago also of note it was clear not only did we not get # 30 lb felt paper we did not even get the double layer #15 that wasmentioned by Sears.
On a complaint response to The BBB Sears stated that they indeed put 2rolls of #15 equaling the #30 felt paper promisedand this was standard but I have pictures, witnesses and the samples to prove this was not true. Also they have stated there was no evidence of rotten wood when I clearly have pictures and have kept the evidence to prove otherwise.
The Sears people here in Phx are either lying to corporate for which they are out of state and is who we are filing the complaint under or corporate is lying to us.
Sears had there chance to fix the problem our original complaints were Leak at chimney every time it rained, large amounts of debris on ground since install every time it rained and there was rotten wood that was not replaced.
We were told the debris was normal but clearly was not. They had come out numerous times to fix chimney leak and did nothing but tell usthey thought we might have defective shinglesfor the debris and called for a manufacturer inspection which came after the hail storm so they basically are now claiming no responsibility because of the storm when clearly our complaints were prior.
There was now new leaks after hail storms in new places. Now that we hired a new contractor to tear off the roof and have found that they roofed over some more rotten wood and did not provide the #30 lb felt paper or Double #15 they said they did we feel that they definitely breached the contract
We have declined there offer of 2000.00 for settlement and would prefer to keep up the pressure to make sure this happens to no one else.
I even had the supervisor of the The Roofing Company Inc Shane Underwood come out and look at my roof and heard him call his installer and asked why he shingled over bad wood.
We just wantpeople to know about this and hope that any one else out there that hashad a roof done by Sears or the "The Roofing Company Inc" the actual company that Sears subcontracted to do my roof comes forward and not let them get away with this miss representation from the salesmen to the actual repair.
I would be glad to show you first hand the real evidence that was saved from my roof if you would like. Good story newsor not this is clearly a great time to help out all the people getting new roofs right now frombeing taken advantage of.

To Craig: I have experienced the nightmare also. Fortunately for you, you had the ability to check if the wood on the roof was rotten or not. I was not that fortunate. As an older female individual, I was told that all was well, but th ecity charged SHIP f a penalty for pinstak=lling th eroof without a permit.
You may want to read my story dated 6/22/10. I am now experiencing another nightmare. This time it is about my bill payment. Sears swears that the bill was sent to me in December 2009, although the contract states that the roof would be billed on 2/15/10.
I requested my bill on 2/4/10, which was never sent to me. It was a 12 month deferrment bill. I am now beinmg accused of not paying a credit card, which was never sent out to me and I am being told that I have to pay late fees for said card.
When I informed Sears that I never received the card, they stated that they sent it out to me on several occasions and it kept coming back to them. The mailing info was the same that I gave Sears. \
It seems as though something that was meant to be meaningful and cost rffrctive has become a reason for becoming ripped off.The only reason for choosing Sears to put that roof on my house was because Sears was ine of my favorite stores from the time I came to the US 41 years ago.I will never be able to say that again and I have warned all of my friends and relatives that they will be shopping at their own risk if they choose to do so at Sears.
The shingles on the roof were supposed to be so thick, that my house would not be cold during the winter. It is now colder than previously. I would have been better off with insulation!!
.Hope your situation becomes resolved some day. Mine is still a nightmare!!
