I scheduled a service call with Sears for my Kenmore electric dryer. I then received an e-mail from Sears stating there would be a $65 charge for the service call. After the technician examined the dryer and gave me an estimate, I decided to wait on repairs, as it might be cheaper to buy a new dryer. He then told me there would be a $70 charge for his visit. I informed him I had been told the charge was $65 and showed him my e-mail from Sears. He explained the $65 was for driving to my house and ringing the doorbell.

Once he touched the dryer (or other appliance), there was automatically another $5 charge tacked on. Seems Sears is still the same slippery company it's always been. I'd been planning to stick with Kenmore appliances, but when I go dryer shopping, it'll be somewhere else.

After sending an e-mail query to Sears on this topic, I received a phone call from customer service agreeing to credit back the additional $5.00. However, I would still encourage everyone to PROCEED WITH CAUTION when dealing with Sears technicians or salespersons.
