When I started with Securitas in 2007 I was promised and agreed to a 40 hour work week and to the pay I requested. I was to get 32 hours at Petsmart and 8 hours at another site. Offer by Superviser Annette Royster after confiring with Area Manger Steve and Scheduler Sherri Sholl. Annette promised to get back with me on the other 8 hour site. Petsmart was 12 hour shifts on the weekend.
At first before the offer was made I heard Steve and Sherri Stoll tell Annette in the next room that the employees were getting an across the board raise at Petsmart in about 90 days, but don't tell her that just try to get her to take the going pay. She came back and told me what the said in a whisper.
Which I told her I could not live on that amount. And told her again the minmum I would accept. And the Amount I was actual amount I wanted to start due to my experience and knowledlge in Security. That is when she went back and talked with them and came back with the above offer. Also stating that I would get a raise at the end of my 90 days and in one year, because they take care of their people, because they want happy employees.
To this day I have not seen the other 8 hours. That is 40 hours a month the knocked me out of or a whole pay check a month.
I checked back with Annette several times during that 90 day period, she always said she was working on it.
They knocked me out of the amount we agreed upon and signed the paper to also.
In May 2007 I asked Annette about the offered job site. If it was a guard shack or inside. Because I did not want to work a guard shack and deal with truckers. She told me that I would not be outside at all, and it was not a guard shack. That I would be inside in the corporate offices working and that the other guards would be outside. She said that it was real clean and and really nice that I would like it.
Wrong agian, when I arrived at work it was not inside, no security officers worked in the corporate office at this site. It WAS A NASTY DIRTY GUARD SHACK. With a Dirty PORT A JOHN, NO RUNNING WATER, and five officers work the same two security vests that were in dire need of cleaning.
When I informed Annette that she had mislead me on the side. She acted surprised and said that is what she had been told and would check into it. Of course she has never gotten back to me.
When talked to the Site Supervisor, Rick Beaver, he just smirked and said that I wasn't the first person that they had lied to. But that he would check into it about the pay. But that this was the actual site. He told me to check back with them and he would too. But don't be surprised at what the say.
Of course he never did anything either.
When I got my paychecks they cheated me out of the dollar amount promised also. When I confronted Supervisors Beaver, Royster and Stoll they all said they would look into and get it corrected and it would be on the next pay.
It was not. Again, I was given the same story by Sherri Stoll.
At the 90 day mark I took my signed agreement into Hilliard office and requested to talk the person in charge to get it resolved. The receptionist called up Sherri Stoll. She listened to my grievances and then said that she didn't know anything about another site and that the cite only paid 8.10 per hour. I told her that was not the agreed upon amount. She told me that was the contract. I asked her then what about this piece of paper that myself and the agent of your company signed? I told her that I had totally been mislead and I believed that was fraudent.
Scheduler superviser Sheri Stoll (who is now no longer with the company) said wait here I will be back and took the copy I gave her. After some time she returned and took me to see the Director Sherri (I can't remember her last name). Sherri listed and took notes.
Director Sherri told me that they were paying me what the site paid and that they couldn't pay me more than the site supvisor made. But that they would live up to the agreed amount and would find me another site with the promised amount and 40 hours. She also said they would make it retroactive.
She told Sherri Stoll to get on it and look for another site for me asap.
She told me that Annette didn't mislead me, but that, she was confused with the other Corporate Site in Groveport. Which is what Annette had described. The Director said that Annette had never been to the Gahanna site. I asked how that was since she was the rover Captain for the site, is what I had been told.
I also asked why Securitas had me as parttime when I was offered full time.The director again refering to the copy in my personnel file said she didn't know, but that 32 hours was full time at their company. And that She would have HR change it and told Sherri to get onto it.
I told her about the unsafe conditions and health issues. The porta john was unclean, men urinate all over the place. And your clothes get in it on the floor. There is no lite in it and no water to wash the hands. Santizer just doesn't cut it after 8-12 hour shifts. No protective dispostal toilet seat covers. And appears to never of been cleaned. No fire extingister, the flash ligts rarely work and you have to have them to see at night. The 2 vests are worn by all 5 officers 24 hours aday and never washed. No eye wash station. And no DRINKING Water. The Coleman cooler had the same water in it for the past 3 months with red mold in it. the coffee pot the employees used had mold in it, because there was no way to wash them out. The cooler water was never changed or ice added. This was in the summer time also. The guard shack had no supplies to clean other that windex for the windows. But the site superviser thought that the 2 females should clean the guard shack. But the men never did. He has two standards one for the men and one for the women.
The director promised that she would check into see who was responsible to see that the portajohn got changed to a modern one with water and lights. And would check into the other safety and health issues, because they took care of their employees.
Well that was the last I heard of from the office and as of one month ago when I brought it up to Joe Henderson, he claimed he didn't know anything about it, but had plenty of other sites he could use me at and would get back to me shortly. Of course he is no longer there now and nothing back from him when he was there.
When minimum wage increase went into affect the knocked me out of my pay. When I questioned Joe about it. Of course no one out there ever returned your calleds unless you threaten to call Corporate on them. He said that the computer did that automatically. And that I should see the increase on the next pay. However it took several more pays and alot of phone calls to see it.
After my 90 days period and the promise of my correct pay it took many calls before I saw it, including to corporate office, and the Director of Human Resourses.
They also was cheating on the city taxes by listing Columbus not Gahanna. It took months of going back and forth with Hilliard and Corporate before that was resolved. Then I had to threaten to go to the Attorney General and Labor Board. At that point the Director, called Hilliard while I was on the phone and demanded it be corrected before payroll went in the next day.
Then and only then was it corrected.
As far as the other issues, they haven't honored any of their promises. I am still there at Petsmart. The PortaJohn is still there and no running water, no fire extingister, no eyewash station.
When the new guard shack was being built I asked Petsmart GM Scott Rodecker about getting a indoor bathroom for the guard shack. He said no that he was not going to pay for lines to be ran. However, the lot was tore up and lines were ran for phones and computer lines. He claimed that we could go inside if we didn't want to use the porta john. I asked him how would that be that on the weekends from Friday to Saturday and part of the time on midnights throught the week there is no access to the inside. He said ok I didn't realize that. I asked him him if he knew he was in violation of Osha law, depriving employees of fresh water, and water to drink. He said what about a coleman cooler with ice. I asked him you mean this one and showed him the same water that had been in it since I started in the spring and this was like late fall. I asked it he would like to drink out of the molding nasty thing? And how was the ice suppost to last from Friday to Monday morning in hot weather.
Scott Rodecker, said Oh I never thought of that, how about a water cooler will that work. I told him it would for drinking but what about washing your hands. And and eye wash station. A fire exingister. He was to work on it.
Nothing else since.
Now that portajohn has been there for what I have been told 6-10 years. I know for two years. Is very shaky and you can fall if not careful coming out because there is a small gap between it and the curb. It also blows overs.NO counting a health issue when you have to set on it in the winter and undo your clothes to set down. You get sick, and Sometime you stick to the frozen seat. You get wet when it rains. The toilet paper is unusable when it rains.
I know of at least 6-8 times it has blown over since I have been there. Any more I've been told.
It blow over last March 2008 in the blizzard and the PortaKleen company didnot respond to the clean up or set up call. Nor do they respond any time you call. Just a recorder. Petsmart set it up. The waste was plowed over by the snow plow.
About a month ago it blew over sometime during the week, Petsmart set it up but did not clean it up. Feces and Toilet paper was left lying under a pine tree about 2 foot from where you park you cars.
On March 29th 2009 it blew over again, Petsmart set it up, But no one cleanup up the raw waste (feces) and toilet paper in the parking lot. I was not briefed and almost stepped in it going to my car to get a flashlight due to the company flash light didnot work again.
Petsmart has promised to replace and has not.
I put barriers around it so supervisor Rick Beaver would not park in it or walk in it. Or the Fish DC people. And submitted and incident report.
Of course the fish people had to walk through the area even when told not to. Tracking the waste throughout the lot and into the building. I informed the Fish supervisor Juan when he arrived.
When Rick Beaver arrived he was mad that the cones were in his space, getting out walking into the area and removing the cones. I informed him he might want to watch where he was walking the cones were in place for a reason. He said with a smirk, Did it blow over again? And came inside. I advised him of the situation, including that there was liquid waste infront of the john and that niether guard had a bathroom to use for over 16 hours. I informed him that petsmart and portakleen both were aware of it. When Portakleen #426 came out to fill the chemicals up it only moved it not cleaned it and left. I also field a report with Securitas's 800 number they give us at 730am on the 30th. At the number they wanted to blow me off untill I told them if they didn't do their job I would call OSHA.
They gave me a report number and pin for the web site, but I can not access it on their magazine they put on on the hotline site.
To this past Monday the portajohn still had not been cleaned from when it upset. This was also reported to Supervisor Rick Beaver.
We also had no phone to use all weekend. No way to contact anyone in an emgerency or to do our job. Of course no one ever comes in to check to see if you are still alive or even doing your job.
Other things that have not been taken care of by the site supervisor is a male driver of #166 from Mike's Trucking Co a subcontractor for Cardinal the main carrier for Petsmart. This driver wears his pants below his hips. When I say this I mean he has no underware on and is exposing his bare skin hips in the entirity. Along with his private area. I have informed Supervisor Rick Beaver orally twice. He laughed and said he knew what I mean because it makes a grown man sick. He said this driver does this all the time. I asked him to make him stop. Talk to Mikes Trucking Owner who he claims to know, and Cardinal Manager Audra.
On this past Monday March 30th, the same driver came in again, I wrote and incident report and informed my supervisor Rick Beaver that it was offensive and to do something.
Is anyone else having the same experiences, that all Securitas wants is a warm body and that they don't really care about us and will tell us anything to get us to do the job? Is there any help out there?
