They fired an employee of 20+ years with a great record. This man named Steve Heady was a service writer for Seeger and has a lot of loyal customers. Steve has made the company a substantial amount of money in the past and has been an excellent worker. As of 2 months ago Steve got a bad case of shingles which caused neurological damage to his legs and has caused a great deal of depression.

The company knew of his condition and knew that Steve was seeing a doctor for his condition. Steve Heady had lost a great deal of knowledge but was continuing to try and keep his job. He spoke with his supervisirs on numerous occasions pertaining to his job welfare and they assured him that he had nothing to worry about.

Well that worrying came true today on Feb 16, 2004 when Steve went into work and found that they had fired him. Not to mention that his boss Mark Beetles is highly unfair and flys off the handle for no reason at all almost daily. He continued to harp Steve and belittle him in front of other employees. They basically black-balled Steve into quitting because Steve had 5 weeks of vacation and made good money.

Mark Beetles has no business being a manager of a compnay when he has no compassion for human life. ADA should do an inquiry on this matter to prevent it from happening in the future. This is not the only case that has happened at Seeger. In the past their was a mechanic who gave SEEGER many years of loyal work and when this mechanic came down with brain cancer they fired him and took away his insurance leaving him no where to turn for his mounting hospital bills. Seeger is a money hungry business with no compassion at all for its employees or the lives that they damage with their actions.

This Is Not Uncommon

#3Consumer Suggestion

Unfortunately, this type of thing happens fairly frequently in small businesses. An employee or family member becomes chronically/terminally ill and requires huge amounts of medical treatment.

If the company does not dump the employee they are faced with significant increases in their companies health insurance cost. Since the employer usually covers the lions share of the cost this can be financially devastating to the company. It's sad but true. ADA laws don't help here and since most jobs are at-will there's just nothing an employee can do. COBRA coverage is about all that's left, if you can afford it.

I'd recommend that all employees check into getting extra catastrophic medical coverage from an independent carrier even if your employer already provides coverage. That way, if you lose your job you have something covering your family.
