My mother was admitted to select in january 2016 for whining off ventilator. Like most people, we was very impressed with the appearance of the facility and knew she would be home by now.... She's not. Within the first couple of days the primary doctor there felt she was suffering and wanted to write her off due to non-communication with staff. The circumstances was explained to them that she lost her speech years ago from a stroke but fully understand. She was approved by Medicare for 120 days stay which with same care as other patients or in better facility, she would be home.

Within first week she received unknown injury to her left eye and have yet to be seen by any specialist after family constant request. The doctor ordered saline drops and I feel more should have been done. When asked can she see, a nod no is her reply. No one is never around when you need anything and appears only to turn off buzzers that is an indication she needs to be turned and checked for dryness. The staff bathe her out of sink which has caused her to have many forms of bacteria and infections. Complaints has been made to D.O.N., charge nurses, even C.E.O. she have had many reoccurring bedsores on buttock and ankles. She has had 5 different surgery to her center line used for dialysis due to infections. The latest done on May 31, 2016. Her medication need for ab fibrilation, depression, and other health issues her primary doctor prescribed has been D/C months ago according to facility doctor. For months we have heard she's a sick lady with multiple organs failure and that's not much more can be done. Well, when you remove ones medication, especially without family consent or acknowledgment, what are the chances of getting better. Secretly the family found out about this a couple of weeks ago and has requested reasons for it, no explanation given. The only medication she receives is blood pressure and Tylenol. What are her changes for survival. It has been an act of God she is still here.

They billed for services not provided and recently pulled her chart to cover themselves once they have been discovered. Sadly, a lot of more family have been at the Mercy of these mercenaries. She never get support rehab like most people and rarely get up out of bed. The complaints has gone on since her admission and nothing has changed even after report to abuse hotline by unknown source. On May 2,2016 she had jtube place to replace previous feeding tube to help with vomiting. On May 9 the family was told the balloon collapsed and would require her to go back into surgery for replacement. May 14 she had surgery and radiologist and hospital found the reason the balloon collapsed is because nursing staff had been giving medication and food through balloon area instead of jtube. These are the people we suppose to trust. March 1 the caseworker was given names of facilities to check for transfer when the time arrived, but she neglect to follow up so now they want to send her out of state. The problem is she could have been gone when a certain number of days to work with was still available for the one place that would have accepted her. The family is always around to watch her except when a good staff is assign to her.

This morning after surgery yesterday... Family found dried blood in back of her head, which means nobody bother to clean her up. My mother is 87 yrs old and determine to come home. But select is determine for her to expire. I look at commercial where help is available for animals yet it so hard to determine abuse/neglect on humans. Is this how the system is operated? The family has no say so in the care of our mother. People need to put themselves in our position and see what you think should be. Where can one start... Who is listening... How do you fight when the government give to much authority to professional with no compassion. The state of Florida is just as worse as any where else. The thing mention above is just the surface. I can write a novel on this so called Speciality hospital. May God have mercy on their souls for the life they're trying to take. She have overcome many pain and suffering within the last seven months and is still here....by the grace of God.

Tonight will be my mother 5th night at Shands hospital in Gainesville Florida. I am glad to report, she appears to be out of distress. Her vital signs change for the best within 2hrs of being transferred. The devil was busy the entire week. May 31,2016 my brother was confronted by caseworker with information to transfer her 4hrs away to Georgia. The gave her good tuck your tail between your legs and get out of my Mother room. June 1,2016, she had surgery in her room instead of at hospital. Her dialysis was delayed for next day June 2 for recovery. My brother and I interchange shift on Thursday June 3,2016. I walked in her room approximately 4:15pm and about lost it. The nurse and CNA was lounging around and slowly walked to her room explaining about dialysis. My mom looked like something up of syfy movie.

Their was line extended from her neck with pool of blood seeking out of bandage that was drape across sight and appeared to be in distress. I wash her face and ask her and stated "I can see you not doing good.... Do you want to go to hospital" immediately she knod yes. I stepped in Hall and ask 3 witnesse to step in. However, when they stepped in, she looked at them and didn't acknowledge when asked again. I told her she does not have to be afraid, no one is going to hurt you anymore, you leaving to night. I Alli dialysis to take place and made arrangements for transportation. Within 5mins, 6 department heads approach me, including the CEO.... No more talking... She out of there. Transportation was called around 8:30pm. The devil got real busy. No physician would sign off on transfer.... It was against their medical advice.... Hog wash, no the wool is being pulled off your cover up. One thing in certain...

Medicare need to do their investigation. There alot of unauthorized billing, probably going on too. Who's to say. I called and specifically asked for ventilator. They arrived and came to her room with absolutely nothing. Asked what the concern and the bottom line it cost me roughly $900 to have her transfer quarter of a mile, if that far. The rest has yet to be told. She in ICU unit, responding to the different meds. D/C majority of select meds (her meds have been gone long before now), taken off ventilator at 9:00am and schedule for dialysis tonight. God is an awesome God... He is the prosecutor, judge, and jury. In man, I do not fear. Many lawyer want touch the case....they don't sue hospital. Where is the Justice, this is a human being with feelings "what if...it was your mother or family members going through it" how would you feel nothing someone has a chance to help.... But you don't sue hospital. A crime is a crime, no matter how it works. But, God has the last say so. Thanks to the readers and comments. God bless you all.

To the JCAHO who oversees Hospitals.  IF your mother is determined to go home with such issues that she has I would at least consider getting a reputable Home Health agency to come in.  If not, long term care may be the best option for rehab.
