I'm one of the many victim of Mr. Nels Frye's misleading and persuasive marketing.

I ordered a suit and an overcoat at Senli and Frye Tailor store in Beijing and I got a jacket that didn't conform with my body. The shoulder of the jacket and the overcoat was way too padded.

The pants did not fit me well and the fabric wasn't very good.

The buttonholes were not handmade, very poor workmanship.

The style and fit was a miss.

I ordered from Senli and Frye because I found very positive reviews online, later it became apparent that many of these positive reviews were probably ochestrated by the Marketing Director of Senli and Frye.

Mr. Nels Frye promised on his website that they can do Neapolitan tailoring: he promised that Sen Li can do a Neapolitan shoulder that molds to the wearers torso so that the customer can feel relaxed and comfortable with himself, instead he gave me a heavily-padded shoulder and stiff chest that bended me into the same structure than any other victim of his scam. Mr. Sen Li was not able to follow the Neapolitan approach. He didn't incorporate any stylistic nuance or method of construction from Naples.

"We know the difference between a Neopolitan[sic] and a Saville[sic] Row shoulder and we are also familiar with styles from Yves Saint Laurent Rive Gauche, to Comme des Garçons, and Dior Homme. The most expensive tailors usually only give you their house style, while the cheap ones just make a mess. We labor to create suits exactly according to client’s requirements, though we do request that bring in an existing suit. We can use this as a model from which to discuss your preferences in terms of fit and styling." I'm very sorry for having written a complaint on this website, there are other ways to complain. Unfortunately I can't find an easy way to delete this messy review.

If you are a customer looking for better reviews on Senli and Frye tailor please visit Timeout Beijing or Cityweekend, where you will find better and more up-to-date information from many clients. Or, better yet, go to the shop to see for yourself.

I appreciate the original Ripoff Report that you have written. I still haven't received any refund from Mr. Nels Frye. A couple years ago I sent an email to Mr. Nels Frye but he never answered. At that time I was very mad about my Senli and Frye's suiting experience. I forgot about it until I got an email linking to this excellent review of Senli and Frye Tailor.

You clearly have a lot of time on your hands.  It's hard to imagine a genuine customer that would be so devoted to stalking me.  I'm almost flattered at this point.  I suppose it is futile to ask you to reveal who you are, since internet trolls like you thrive off of being anonymous.  As I've stated in many other posts, we will happily provide a refund if you come forth and contact me and have a proper conversation like an adult.

Mr. Frye: Will you stop threatening your unsatisfied customers?

What libellous claims are you talking about? What links?

I'm an unhappy customer.

Mr. Frye recently deleted two responses that he wrote to an unsatisfied customer.

His own answers should help to make some things clear to anyone still reading this.

Hello,

I'm sorry that you had such a bad experience at our store. Unfortunately, I do not recall receiving the email that I am sure you sent me, but I'm sure that is either the result of an overly conscientious spam filter or my faulty memory - I work on far too many different projects.

You are clearly more knowledgeable than most clients about suiting and you also had a dramatically worse experience than almost every client. So I commend you on your knowledge and apologize for the negative experience that you had. Unfortunately, it just not match with my knowledge of our business or the the vast majority of the reactions that I encounter. Granted, there have been around 3 or 4 customers out of near a thousand over the last five years that had reactions as bad as yours. I am hardly claiming that this doesn't happen.

I don't know why the fit was so bad. That is extremely unusual and does not match with what I have witnessed in my own suits or those of most customers, some of them as knowledgable and refined as consumers as you seem to be. I am very sorry that suit does not fit the way you want.

In terms of the quality issues, I believe that we offer an excellent product. I think it is a suit that will last many years and our fully-canvassed models feature a great deal of handwork. Is the suit 100% handmade? No. There are very few suits like that in this world.

Do you think it is possible to get a Rolls Royce for the price of a BMW? Or, put another way, do you think the Chinese-made BMWs are as good as the German ones? How does the price compare in this market? But how does the quality of a Chinese-made BMW compare to that of a Hyundai or a Geely?

My point is that we not offer the best suit in the world, but we are one of the very best options in this market and there is no better option in Beijing for the price that we offer. Our prices might be higher than what you want and I don't know if there are better values in other cities, but given the costs and the competitive landscape here, what we offer is a very solid package and one that satisfies the vast majority of our clients.

If you want Savile Row, I suggest you go there.

Well, thanks for all the comments. My responses:

1. I appreciate the suggestion about altering the language on the site. It is true. We cannot do a Neapolitan shoulder. Thanks for that.

2. You are wrong about the suits not lasting due to not being worn. The vast majority of clients wear their suits frequently and with great satisfaction. Granted, there are always unsatisfied customers, like yourselves, in every business.

3. I doubt there are many tailors in the world that would offer a refund in these cases. I have been unsatisfied with other tailoring experiences and did not make similar demands. We do not state anywhere that we can provide refunds.

4. I am sorry that things did not work out for you. I hope they have with other tailors. Most of our clients remain extremely satisfied. As for my other projects, there is nothing I can do about it. Sorry. I hope we do not have to continue this conversation. I am sure you are busy too.

This is Part of a Concerted Effort to Ruin my Online Reputation

Recently, somebody has been trying to plaster the internet with libellous claims about me and my tailoring business.  Here they are again.  Please do not take these malicious attempts at face value.

I believe if you read these links, you will understand the nature of the assault being launched:

(((linkd redacted)))

Presumably this is the work of a competitor or somebody that has a grudge.  Even if it is really an unhappy customer, which seems unlikely given the tenacity of the attacls, my response is that we are a tailorshop.  We not offer 100% satisfaction.  We do offer excellent suits and countless happy clients around the world can attest to this.

We are using all the means we can to locate the perpetrator and will take legal action to protect our name.
