On the night of 12/8/2002 SPAMvertisements started appearing in the chat room I frequent. The advertisements looked like a screen name in a chat room "chatting" - then they gave a link to one of three IP addresses (140.186.123.197, 140.186,123,196, and 140.186.123.196). These IP addresses all point to a web URL www.sexthenet.com. They were coming in the room every three minutes, dumping their trash and leaving. The "bot" apparently has the ability to alter the screen name enough so that you have to place each and every bot on ignore when it comes in or you are deluged with it's schlock. Here's a few examples.

sxysuziejsf9 has entered the room.
sxysuziejsf9 : Whats up in here?
sxysuziejsf9 : I like the water so I am going to Florida
sxysuziejsf9 : Visit HERE for totally free webcams, see my explicit pics there!
sxysuziejsf9 : you going to call him?
sxysuziejsf9 : I love playing on my webcam, see me HERE
sxysuziejsf9 : gotta run, be back later
sxysuziejsf9 has left the room.

lonelykaren1hvs has entered the room.
lonelykaren1hvs: Whats up in here?
lonelykaren1hvs: I get tense if I don't get it once a day
lonelykaren1hvs: Cute college coed looking to play on my new webcam, see me here HERE
lonelykaren1hvs: anyone from Boston?
lonelykaren1hvs: I love meeting new people, come see my webcam details HERE
lonelykaren1hvs has left the room.

bifemsheilakkjh has entered the room.
bifemsheilakkjh: Whats up in here?
bifemsheilakkjh: anyone from Florida?
bifemsheilakkjh: I love meeting new people, come see my webcam details HERE
bifemsheilakkjh: I just got a new email account there
bifemsheilakkjh: I love playing on my webcam, see me HERE
bifemsheilakkjh: see you soon, gotta run
bifemsheilakkjh has left the room.

The word HERE in each of the examples is a link to the site in the room.

I traced the IP and it came back assigned to burningvoid.com. I sent burningvoid.com this email:

"It has come to my attention that the person or persons who run the site in your domain are using programmed "bots" advertising on the America Online Instant Messenger Chat Room servers. The program probably allows for multiple screen names with infinite variation on the screen names. I have personally seen these "bots" in the chat room in the last 36 hours and have placed on ignore approximately 100 screen names. These advertisements flood the chat room with URL links. These advertisements reference to the IP addresses 140.186.123.197, 140.186.123.196, and 140.186.123.195 and when the link is clicked, it takes you to a site for pornography. The chat rooms available from America Online Instant Messenger are available to children 13 years and older. They are advertising porn to minors, which is illegal in all 50 states. Please inform your "tenants" to correct these actions or some form of legal remedy will be sought by the people who frequent these chat rooms. Below you will see a sample of said advertisements that are appearing in chat rooms across the network."

I quickly received an email from Jeffrey at burningvoid.com that explained that - although these USED to be their IP addresses, they have since changed providers and the provider neglected to request a change to the whois database to reflect this. Jeffery, who is VERY NICE and was VERY HELPFUL, and when I apologized about threatening legal action (as being heavy handed), he told me:

"Not heavy handed at all. In fact, I was tempted to thank you for being so restrained in the first reply. The first complaint about this I got last night was, "If you don't stop, I'm going to launch a denial of service and SPAM attack on your servers. You've been warned." Now *that* was heavy handed. (shiver)"

I contacted www.intra-connect.net with the exact same letter I sent to Jeffery and a few others. COLIN replied with this -

"How many people do you feel that you need to contact? I already spoke to the tenant. And modified SWIP records are requested. Sending email to everyone you can think of is like spam.
Try asking nicely.. It goes futher than forceful language.

Also, I do not generally respond to emails that are from "Hotmail".

Which chat rooms are affected by this ?"

To this email I replied "I will send this to as many people as I need to in order to stop it. And considering I'm dealing with spammers, do you think I was my ISP email address handed to them on a plate?" and I included this list of chat rooms that the bots had been infesting as of 12/9/2002

I also told COLIN "if you'd like your teenagers exposed to pornography, that's your business. But I think this spamvertisement in the Britney Spear and WWF Chat rooms is TOO MUCH"

I also included a "chat log" featuring the bots finest work.

Not only is the web site still spamming ALL those chat rooms. I only found three public rooms that the bots were NOT in. l*****n Chat was one of them... guess they don't want legal age women looking at their web cams, but teens as young as 13 are ok.

In closing, www.sexthenet.com is responsible for advertising pornography in rooms that are frequented by children, and COLIN (bless his heart) "SPOKE" to the tenant and modified SWIP records LIKE HE SHOULD HAVE OVER SIX MONTHS AGO.

I finally get fed up with the bots enough to do something about it, and COLIN thinks that "asking nicely" gets things done. If asking nicely worked. There would BE no Rip-Off Report.

"Michael - Coral Gables" Is Really Jason "The Stalker"

#12Consumer Comment

Wed, August 20, 2003

Sigh...

It's a realy shame when people like "Michael" Aka Jason Kinkelarr (the stalker) can actually try to slam something legitimate.

He's been reported to the FBI over a dozen times, we've had his "web sites" yanked off of at LEAST five servers for stalking activity (Even one web host he had stated "as long as it's legal" - they yanked his pathetic pages off line too) Funny how he can never use his real name. It's always Johnny Smith and the address is never real either. Imagine him living at a law firm in New York. HAH!

We kicked this moron off a message board ONE YEAR AGO. Duh. My guess is he's still whining and crying about that.

He doesn't have a life. His wife is asking for "online healing" because their relationship is troubled.

Gee, when he's obsessing over people he doesn't even know face to face. It's a wonder why.

#12Consumer Suggestion

This sort of activity should be reported immediately to cyberangels.org and the FBI. Unfortunately, laws affecting pornography directed toward children and child pornography itself are not in place in countries where most of this sick garbage originates. We can try to stop it from reaching our children, however. Forward any an all information you have to these organizations, and perhaps we can bring these international criminals to justice.

If you have children using the Internet, install the proper safeguards and warn them of the dangers. There are a lot of pedophiles and perverts out there, and a large majority of them seem to gravitate to the Internet.

This cow, queenheartles, posts complaints, and endeavors to take websites down as a 'career', since she is terminally unemployed, and can barely walk due to morbid obesity.

Read her follow-up on the http://www.revengeunlimited.com website to gain cheers from her followers there:

This 'Moo' has the dubious postion of being an unpaid moderator-blob, inciting others to spam and complain about other websites.

"Hello Margarita!" Re: Revenge Success Stories
Reply #65 on: June 4th, 2003, 2:31pm

----------------------------

The following success story depicts Queen taking on the sex industry... read and learn!!!

Here's the story. I use the chat rooms on the AIM network. Since this weekend, all the chat rooms on the network have been inundated with bots advertising www.sexthenet.com even the chat rooms geared for teens 13 years and up. Britney Spears, N Sync, WWF Chat rooms just to name a few. I've been in contact with the owners of the server that this webfilth page is on. MAN IS HE RUDE. His name is Colin and his email address is con@intra-connect.net (I'm putting this here because it IS a business email and public.) After sending out a very nicely worded letter essentially stating "do something about this spamvertising of this sex page in kids chat rooms or we may take legal action" I was asked how many people was I going to send this to and if I wasn't so "rude" and asked nicely maybe something would be done. GUESS WHAT. He thought that was rude? I reported him to the RIP OFF REPORT. The link at the bottom is the report page. PLEASE.. read the report... and post a rebuttal that is in aggreement with it. If this doesn't work, QueenHeartles will have to do some illegal things to get this site shut down. Please help me keep my butt out of jail.

http://www.badbusinessbureau.com/view.asp?ID=37720

later...

as you have read the story, you'll see that the server is in Redondo Beach, California and sexthenet.com doesn't have a physical address. Make sure you send an email to Colin... that b*****d... and be as rude as you like.

later...

the email for Colin is as follows

NOC@INTRA-CONNECT.NET

I was sleep deprived and pissed off when I wrote that post.

later...

Those particular obnoxious spambots are HISTORY

check out this email:
Thank you for bringing this to my attention and to sending the proper information to abuse@midnighterotica.com.

The following IP Addresses 140.186.123.197, 140.186.123.196, and 140.186.123.195 are, in fact, hosted on our servers and two of these IP addresses are participants in our affiliate system. The third(140.186.123.197) has been shut down and redirected pending investigation.

This is the second such complaint we have had in the past few days, and we received affiliate reference ID's from the other complainant. These affiliate accounts have been terminated without pay from the MidnightErotica family of programs for failure to comply with our Terms of Service concerning email and chat room spam. I have contacted the suspected webmasters directly, and while they deny any such activity, I have still gone ahead and terminated them from our system.

I cannot guarentee that this will stop these people who have the technology to spam in AIM, yahoo, icq, irc, msn or any of the other myriad places that spammers frequent. Our organization does not, and can not, monitor all of
these "chat" applications and rely on concerned individuals such as yourself to keep us abreast of any infringements of our Terms of Service.

I can insure you that these affiliates will receive no funds from our program and all of the funds that they earned to date will not be paid. I hope that this will discourage them from attempting to continue to earn money in this fashion.

I appreciate your prompt notification of my Account Manager, and hope that at a minimum, that you will no longer see our programs being spammed in AIM from these individuals.

Please feel free to contact me directly at this email address should you have any further concerns.

Regards,

Bob Cristello, CEO

finally...

See? I'm not as mean, evil and nasty as some people think. I just like doing things the hard way. LOL Besides...those bots were annoying the hell out of me too.

After many emails to people, some who were helpful and others (like Colin) were down right RUDE, the problem has been resolved

The porn spambots in the AIM chat rooms from this particular web site (www.sexthenet.com) have stopped. The web page has been redirected and their affiliation with Mr. Cristellos organization has been terminated.

Again, Mr. Cristello, I thank you.

Instead of "kiddie porn" now we have "porn the kiddies"

#12Consumer Comment

Tue, December 10, 2002

On approximately 12-08-02, AOL Instant Messenger (aka AIM) was placed under siege by an automated program that's sole purpose is to enter chat rooms and pretend (using a form of artificial intelligence) to be a chatter. These artificial "chatters" generally utter a few innocuous phrases and then insert a link to a porn site.

As irritating as these "bots" (common terminology for automated "chatters") are, I am an adult and understand that all things are not within my control. If AOL condones these bots, (and since they allow it to occur, I must believe that they do have an interest in it) I must either tolerate it or quit using their software.

HOWEVER, these bots do not limit their access to adult chat rooms. They enter many rooms that were designed as teen chat rooms where there are a large number of children as young as 13. Actually, even though AOL limits their access to 13 and above, it is very easy for someone even younger to simply lie about their age to gain access.

These pornographic advertisements are NOT age appropriate for those rooms. These kids are, by law, to be protected from exposure to pornographic materials.

It is my belief that the server(s)supporting the offending site(s), the service(s) permitting
the spamming of ads within inappropriate areas and AOL need to be held accountable.

At a minimum, if AOL doesn't take action to remove or limit this type of activity, I would strongly suggest that anyone subscribing to AOL, rethink their association with any organization that, either actively or passively, permits such abhorrent material to be thrust upon children.

Our Children See This Trash

#12Consumer Comment

Tue, December 10, 2002

I am fed up with companies that do mass advertising to people. Especially pornographers. Putting links in chat rooms for young children to see is completely unacceptable in any situation. Our children face a lot of dilemas growing up. This should not have to be one of them. They are already bombarded with advertisements for common clothing and makeup encouraging them to be a size 0 and look "sexy". They don't need to be getting direct advertisements from people who are trying to sell pictures of women's naked bodies, and various sexual acts. When these same children, that clicked out of curiosity or mistake, are emotionally damaged by the filth they have seen, will Colin pay for therapy? Will he be there to support a young teen girl who has been raped as a result of a young male veiwing these sites and not knowing how to handle his feelings?? I think not!

We do everything we can to keep our children's world safe and secure. To teach them right from wrong. To make sure they are not harmed by anyone or anything. Surely there must be something we can do to let our children have access to the internet without having to worry about pornographers trying to get to them to look at their goods. If the site links are going to children, then perhaps the people doing the "SITE PUSHING" should be held liable for it?

Tired of All the Porn

#12Consumer Comment

Tue, December 10, 2002

It's obvious that anyone wanting porn knows where to find it. Let's face it, it isn't hard. Some people are also willing to pay for it. That's ok too if that's what they are into. I do NOT feel that it should be advertised in chat rooms. I have a popular internet service and lately I have been bombarded with all this sex and porn stuff that I didn't ask for.My children are on our computer a lot and they see the emails. We have to protect our children by the preditors of the world, and if you look at the news this is where a lot of them hang out looking for their next "victim". When I want it, I'll look for it, otherwise leave me and the children alone by your constant harrassing advertising.

Sex Spam

#12Consumer Comment

Tue, December 10, 2002

I just wish to comment on the sexspam which is currently pouring into the aol instant messenger (AIMS) chat rooms.
These pornbots (as I call them) have been an absolute disgrace. They need to be stopped and stopped immediately. Apart from the fact that they are extremely irritating they are also commmiting a serious offence. My daughter often goes into these chat rooms and once clicked onto a pornbot site. I was astounded that these things can be made so accessible to children. It has to stop. Why was it allowed to happen in the foirst place is my question? Surely there are regulations over content especially when accessible to youngsters of 13 and upwards. I would like to see the instigators of these porn sites, be given a hefty fine or perhaps even jail

Bots in Chat rooms

#12Consumer Comment

Tue, December 10, 2002

I agree that having these bots in the chat rooms gives minors access to places they shouldn't have access to. The companies that use these bots to advertise need to be help responsible for advertising in places where children can click on the links. Personally I don't really like seeing these advertisements either. They just annoy everyone in the chat rooms and take away from us enjoying the conversations we came there to have.
