On April 14, 2005, I took my 1996 Pontiac Grand Am to Sharrett Pontiac service department to have my oil change and a 25-point inspection.

On the Comprehensive Vehicle Maintenance Inspection report, it was noted that the rear and front brakes were checked and that they measured 7/32". The service manager Michael Shoop stated that the inspection was done properly and that the service technician who inspected my car was a very good mechanic and does a good job. After taking my car to Midas, which is where I usually go for brake work to have a second opinion, Midas stated that the rear brake drums had not even been removed, and the rear brakes measured 2/32. So how Sharrett Pontiac came to these measurement conclusions is beyond me!!!

I called Michael Swoop at Sharrett Pontiac and stated to him that I would bring my car back in the next day to have them look at it again.

I went back to Sharrett Pontiac on April 15, 2005 and was told that Midas was correct. The repair technician who worked on my car at Sharrett Pontiac stated to Mr. Swoop that he never removed the rear tire to physically inspect the rear brakes and he just arbitrarily wrote a false reading on the comprehensive vehicle maintenance report and also stated to Mr. Swoop, the parts manager that he did in fact fraudulently note on the inspection report that he had done work that he did not actually do.

This obviously poses a great safety concern and risk to consumer safety when service technicians at an auto dealership falsify inspection reports and mislead the consumer, especially when it concerns something as important as a brake inspection.

I feel that if this type of practice is somehow condone at this repair facility that other consumers besides myself may be at great risk of their safety.

Because of Sharrett's negligence in this matter and blatant attempt to give me the false sense of security that my brakes were in better condition than they actually were, I feel that they should replace my rear brakes at no additional charge. This would be the only way that they can be assured that this will never happen to another customer at their facility again.

Sharrett Pontiac Hagerstown Next time you want to call someone a liar

#5Author of original report

Sat, April 16, 2005

If you would take the time to notice I live on the EAST COAST. The time stamps for the posting is stamped WEST COAST TIME!!! Next time you want to call someone a liar, check yourselves first. I have a lifetime free brake part replacement from Midas.

The reason I went to Midas after leaving the dealership is because they noticed other things that needed to be fixed on my car and I went there to get price estimates for the other repairs they told me that my rotors needed replaced.

So since Midas was going to replace my rotors I told them to go ahead and replace my front break pads since I have the free lifetime replacement anyway. That is when Midas told me that the measuments from my front break pads was not the same as what Sharrett told me. That got me suspucious so I had them check the back ones as well. That is when they told me that they had never even been removed. That all took place around 4:30 Thursday evening. I then called Sharrett and said that I would be coming Friday morning. I got to Sharrett around 9:00 AM EAST COAST TIME Friday.

Correction to my previous post my statement regarding the dealership service department being closed

#5Consumer Suggestion

The 15th was Friday. Therefore, my statement regarding the dealership service department being closed on Saturday was irrelivant to this report. Got ahead of myself.

The service department hours are 8:00 am - 5:30 pm on Fridays (according to the website www.sharrett.com.

According to the original report, he returned on the 15th in the morning, yet his report was submitted at 8:35 am.

Why run to Midas for a second opinion? You did not mention if you had concerns about your brakes prior to your 1st visit to the dealership.

I agree with Cory, the whole thing appears to have been pre-planned to obtain free brake work. If the dealership didn't even pull the wheel to inspect the brakes, why would you want the work done there?

I wish I could get such fast service at any shop. Most dealerships that I have dealt with would not have even moved my car to a service bay in this time period (assuming they open at 7).

Upon checking Sharrett's web site it appears that their service department is actually closed on Saturdays.

My first impression of the original post, was that Midus is the last place I would go for a 2nd opinion. My radar was signalling a rip-off, but not by the dealership.

Cory: I figure he could get in and out of any dealership fast if the brakes fail...lol...
Good Job again, I appreciate your committment to uncovering bogus reports....

Who's Trying To Ripoff Who?

This is a bad post. Today is April the 15th. So, if you are to be believed, all this happened on one day, April the 14th. This is a set up from the word go. "I took my Pontiac......oil change and a 25 point inspection.

They told you your car was ok. Then you drive right over to the Midas "for a second opinion". And, you expect us to believe that? Then the next day today, you drive back over to the Pontiac dealer to get a third opinion.

It sounds to me like you know your brakes needed to be replaced, the first guy missed it, he admitted it, you drove right over to Midas for some documentation, then drove back to the dealer and am now trying to extort a brake job out of them, using this forum. "I feel that they should replace my rear brakes at no additional charge"

What an a..hole. "Blatant attempt to give me the false sense of security..." What a line of crap. Then you throw in the "this will never happen to another customer", like you're looking out for other's welfare. Gage me.

People post on this site all the time, about car dealers that do work that isn't needed. This is so far out of the norm. But hey, good try. It should have been: Jonathan- Ripoff
