Complaint Review: Shawn Talbot Best Vue And Remod-ALL

In late December, I bought windows, gutters, and a new front door for my house from Forever Windows & Siding. There were 5 different contractors that I interviewed before signing with one. My goal was not to find the cheapest, but rather the one with the most intelligent solution.

Shawn was the one I hired, and he was (coincidentally) less expensive that all of the others. Some of the other companies wreaked of sleaze (reminded me of used car dealers) and some were ridiculously expensive. One was downright unprofessional - when I asked him about the trim around the windows on the outside - he said it was up to be to do my own painting. I knew they could be capped at a price, but his answer when I asked about capping the outside trim was, 'get up on a ladder and do some painting....'

Shawn was not at all like the others. There was no pressure to sign, he took time to educate, and was most respectful.

My windows were installed over two days in January (when the temperatures warmed up a bit), and they did an AWESOME JOB!!

1. Shawn suggested I go with Low E Argon Gas windows (a superior window) because the extra cost would be totally offset by a tax rebate. I just did my taxes and he was CORRECT!!

2. Since I am not in good physical shape, and exterior maintenance would be tough for me, they capped all of my windows, the front door, PLUS the existing back door with vinyl clad aluminum. They all look GREAT, will never rot, and will never need to be painted, EVER!!

3. The installers were professional, courteous, and got right down to it, with almost no breaks, nor lunch, and no time wasted. I learned on the second day that this is a family business, and the installers Shawn brought with him were his Dad and his sister.

4. A few days before the installation, the windows were delivered by the supplier, and they were left outside leaning against the garage. I was concerned they would get stolen, so I called Shawn. He arrived in short order (with his brother to help) and moved all of the windows into my basement where they'd be out of harm's way.

5. The front door we chose was all steel, and was slightly dented. Shawn got on the phone, and got the supplier to replace it at no charge. He then drove 1 hour each way to exchange the door before installing it. The door is a tad out of plumb due to my hardwood floor, but Shawn has agreed to remove the door, trim the floor, and then replace the door.

6. All of the old windows, plus all of the debris were completely removed by Shawn's crew.

This was a very positive experience, and I think anyone who uses this site when checking out a contractor needs to understand this: People can say what ever they want here, so they may exaggerate if they had a problem. I think from what I have read here, the complaint was resolved, but it took longer than the homeowner wanted.

It is impossible to satisfy all customers all the time. Forever Siding And Windows will do a great job for you, and if there is an issue, they will make it right. But you might need to be patient. Since we bought our house in November 2007, we have had 6 different major projects done, with all different contractors. All of them had issues and all of them made good, some faster than others. Forever Siding And Windows was the most concerned about addressing any issues. My windows and door look fantastic, and we are using way less oil to heat. The installation was all first class, and I have no complaints about any of the work. I am waiting for the door adjustment, but that is minor, and Shawn did say it would be a little while before he could get to it. Someone else might be upset about the door, but I have been so happy with the windows, the work and the quick response to all of the issues that I rate this experience as a 10+.
