On May 3, 2005. I Signed up with Shopping Essentials of PO Box Des Plaines, IL. 60017-5152. I was given 30 days to cancel my account. I was given a phone and email address, to use to cancel if I choose to do so. I called the phone number as given, and was given no option to cancel. I then emailed the email address given, and again no option to cancel.

Suggestions when calling to cancel

#2Consumer Suggestion

Wed, July 13, 2005

I don't work for this company, but I do have the bad luck of being one of those who work for a teleservices company who 'offer' the sales of things like these.

Sad to say that we are REQUIRED by our employer to read these offers and on top of that, make several attempts to read them despite any denials the customers make.

There are a million of these things and I am always being told that they cannot get through to cancel.

I tried dialing the number that you have listed and as you had said, there is no option to cancel, only to get information on charges or the services, however... most touch tone menus like that have an option whether its verbally communicated to you or not, where you can press zero to be connected with a representative.

If you ever find yourself in a situation like that, I just thought I'd suggest that you press zero right off the bat to try to get an agent.

If that doesn't work, press zero like a dozen times and sometimes that will send you to a representative.

When I called that number just now, granted it is 1am here.. I got the menu and when I pressed zero, it told me that there were no available agents at that time as the office was closed and then gave me normal business hours.

So the moral of the story..... just play around with different buttons if you can't get an agent, usually there's a button that will get you a real person during business hours.

A word of advice.... having dealt with these shady scams and offers before..... if it sounds too good to be true.... it is!

If someone offers you a 30 day risk free trial offer and in exchange, they give you gift cards, cd players, etc.... they are trying to take advantage of you.

They hope that you forget to cancel. Also, if offered things like this... listen very carefully to the offer for word like voucher or certificate.

Part of many of these offers, the 'gift' is for a gift card voucher where they will send you something in the mail (from what I hear it will come in something that appears to be junk mail, something you wouldn't normally open, so keep your eyes peeled!) in which you are supposed to fill out and send away for the gift card or certificates and such.

Most people tend to not go through all the hassles. The gifts they promise are NEVER given to you up front with your welcome kits and such. For those in this predicament.... good luck and be careful!
