Short Freight Lines Dakota Leasing/Saginaw Valley Marine Abandoned equiptment ????? Bay City, Michigan
Here's a company that you would like to work for, I was employed with them from 11/2007 to 01/2008, yea it did'nt take long to leave this scrap yard, this would have been a good job if they had'nt been pencile whippin me on my pay.
I allways thought if you were hired on as a company driver, you could'nt be as a lease (o/o) driver, I hired on with Short Freight, but I was actually working for Dakota Leasing, with out being told, our direct freight was chemicals through Short freight, but our back hauls were through Saginaw valley marine, figure that out.
The pay was'nt bad at 30%, but by the time the companies penciles were done with it, I only received 24% of it, I kept close account of what each load payed, but things were'nt adding up. I'd brought this up on the 1st paycheck, but was told to like it or leave, this is the way it is.
Heres another one of those cases, you can't be late, do what you need to, just make sure you'r logs are leagle when you turn them in, I've been in this business for over 30 year's, I've drove some pretty junky equiptment, but this place ranked among the worst.
These guys were so cheap they would not hire a certified mechanic, only a poor sap to do minor repairs, for bottom dollar, if you'r truck broke down (where ever you were) you had to find a shop and of course did'nt get payed for you'r trouble.
I ran my a*s off these people 3000-3200 miles per week, 34 hrs off then back out, there's not much local in this area so I chose to hang on till I could'nt stand it any more.
What broke the camels back, I picked up a load in Horse cave, KY. the axles on my trailer was streched to the maximum length, when I went to adjust them to a leagle length the tandem locks had fallen away from the sub frame, then was loaded on top of the locks preventing them to move, I had to haul this illeagley to the nearest truck stop 25 miles away for repair.
The 2nd time this very same thing happened 2 weeks later at our primary customers place, I was pissed, this is preventitive maintainance at it's finest, I called dipatch, they had no available to come repair this trailer, being only 20 miles from the yard, they requested me to bring it to the terminal, again I was forced to transport an illeagle trailer on public roads.
Dispatch informed me you got 3 days before you have to leave, it will be fixed, OK I'll write it up and leave a note to dispatch for a reminder, at the yard I fixed my weekly paper work wrote the reminder and filled out Vehical inspection report, I was sure to leave a copy in the shop box too.
I also took a picture of the damage on the trailer, unfortunatly I did'nt keep a copy of the VIR, but all this is logged in my book and I do have a copy of the receipt from the first incident.
I covered my a**, the day I was going to leave dispatch called me at home and asked when I was going to leave, I told them I was going in a couple of hours, this way I do'nt have to be in a hurry, they was all for that, then I asked if the repairs were done on trailer, I expected yes but what I got was a Huh? what repairs? you mean to tell me that trailers been sitting there for 2.5 days and know one has done nothing??? WTF? Ok can somebody come out there now and fix it?
No the boss said, no weekend shop people, A 20 minute fix are you kidding? So I've got to wait till morning, this is bull sh*t, now I got to run hard to get there because , I refuse to run illeagle , they said do'nt worry we'll cover it, I said no were the hell is you'r priorities, this is it, I'm done get sombody else run it, I hung up on them.
If this was'nt enough there safety man, thought it would be a good idea to put on my DAC report that I had abandoned my equiptment, how can you abandon something parked on company property, what a moron, this was a blaten lie, I sent this guy a e-mail requesting him to stop and explained to him the reasons for my departure, I also showed him the picture I had, this dude thought he would intimidate me, accusing me of extortion, so I responed forcing him to apend my rebuttle to every request for previous employment verification according to the DOT regs 391.23 erronious info rights.
Again I covered all the bases they had plenty of time to cover this load, they were informed with more than enough time to rectifiy any repairs, this is soley there fault, if there cheap asses would of done their jobs I'd probly still be there even with beatings on pay.
