SCAMMERS STEAL REAL BUSINESS NAMES IN THEIR SCAMS - ITS IMPORTANT THAT PEOPLE KNOW THIS

#7Consumer Comment

Wed, April 15, 2009

ITS NOT A NEW SCAM - but an old one that just keeps changing the business names they use. The business name they use changes as many times as their phone numbers and websites.

ITS ALSO IMPORTANT TO KNOW - in LEGITIMATE SECRET SHOPPING SERVICES

that you are hired and paid by the retailer - not the service. So you will never get an assignment that has several different stores in it like these scams do. FOR EXAMPLE - MONEY GRAM WILL HIRE YOU TO RATE THE SERVICE and will only provide a small amount of money - NOT SEVERAL THOUSAND! The whole point of wiring money - is there is no way to get it back - no tracking etc..

THE SCAMMERS CLAIM $200 FOR YOUR PAY - This is far too high an amount for Secret Shopping. LEGITIMATE retailers pay far less - depending on the job max is usually $20 per shop. Some are higher but those usually go to the most experienced proven shoppers - never to new shoppers.

Everything you are reading here does not have anything to do with our company. We don't have "Stephen Greene" work for us. Scammers are using our name and logo. Please go to our website at www.secretshopper.com to read more how to avoid these scams in the future. Legitimate companies have no reason to ask shoppers to send them money. If you get an offer that sounds too good to be true, it probably is. Mystery shopping is a legitimate business, but only if you are dealing with legitimate companies. Don't get scammed. If you receive a cashier's check in the mail, with a request to wire money to someone, don't do it! Contact your local authorities and the FBI...and fax a copy of the materials you receive to MSPA (Mystery Shopping Providers Association) at 972-755-2561 or go to the website at http://www.mysteryshop.org/. Thanks

I received similar today, 3/10/09. A letter from a Stephen Greene with a check for $3,875.00. The check was drawn from JP Morgan Chase Bank in Syracuse, NY with the body of the letter exactly as stated in the previous thread.

I reported this to the FTC, and let friends and neighbors know about this. I also contacted thejobplanet.com. I am hoping the scam artists are using thejobplanet.com as a cover, and the company itself is not part of this Secret Shopper fiasco.
