I recently installed Nero 7/Esssentials software which came with my external DVD burner. It being a lite copy, I soon found out that it only had limited number of CD to MP3 conversions one can perform. To upgrade to unlimited decoding functionality, a plug in must be bought from the Nero website. Fine, not a big deal. I purchased a license, installed but still was not able to copy tracks. After trying several times, I looked up Nero support section, found an email adress for licensing problems and sent them an email along with proof of purchase; no response.

I have resend them that same email on various days with any responses (and I have also checked my spam folder, just in case). As a last resort, I decided to contact their technical support hotline. The amount is $1.29 per minute that they charge to a credit card, fine. I didn't expect it to take too long. According to the support section of the website, I was not supposed to be charged $1.29 until I was actually connected to the tech rep.

I was put on hold for about three minutes during which time I changed my mind to get support via phone and go a different route. Next day, while checking my bank statement, I noticed that I was $71 by some company called Silicon Support Sevices! I have disputed the charge wih my bank and it will be reversed. At this point, I have lost all respect for Nero first for being absolutely non-responsive and, second, having alliances with rip-off shops like Silicon Support Services.
