Silkies ripoff billing harassment Philadelphia Pennsylvania
After my girlfriend started receiving bills for a pair of pantyhose that were supposed to be a free sample I did some research. It seems Silkies has a reputation for this kind of thing and threats of going to the BBB, of which they are a member, don't seem to impress them.
What I found was a LAW and the agency to enforce it. Here is the major portion of the response I wrote for my girlfriend. Maybe they will notice this since they don't pay a membership to the U.S. Post Office like they do the BBB.
Your product(s) was (were) not ordered. A cancellation has previously been requested. Attempts to make contact your company by phone have been non-productive. Further mailings will be considered as harassment and turned over to the United States Postal Service Inspector for investigation under Title 39, United States Code, Section 3009.
This section of the Postal Reorganization Act of 1970 incorporates these protections for American consumers. This makes the mailing of unordered merchandise unfair methods of competition and unfair trade practices under the law.
The following is a direct quote from the United States Postal Inspection Service's website:
If you do not wish to pay for unsolicited merchandise or make a donation to a charity sending such an item, you may do one of three things (in each case, by law, you have no obligation to the sender):
If you have not opened the package, you may mark it "Return to Sender," and the Postal Service will return it with no additional postage charged to you.
If you open the package and don't like what you find, you may throw it away.
If you open the package and like what you find, you may keep it for free. In this instance, "finders-keepers" applies unconditionally.
Furthermore, it is illegal for a company that sends you unordered merchandise to follow the mailing with a bill or dunning communication.
The next mailing, containing any billing and/or dunning content will be turned over to the USPS without further notice to you.

This is the MOST scum scamming company I ever dealt with. Took a year to get them to STOP calling and They own a collections service too. After I wrote to the PA Consumers Protection Agency and filed complaints with USPS and (BBB(JOKE) I was notified they could not find an account for me. This is how they operate after they are in deep poo. Once contacted by an agency they FEAR, they loose your account and Finally Leave you alone. I suggest filing a complaint with there local Consumers office and without a doubt the US Postal service. Going to the USPS really places fear in them as without them they will shut down. I also know they have been Banned from Arizona for scam marketing. Atleast it seems Arizona's Law makers protect there citizens. More than I can say for Tennessee.
Also if you try to refuse the package it will be bounced back to you in a few weeks with postage Due. I recommend taking it directly to your local poast Master and take these articles printed out to "show cause" and demand Silkies to never be placed in your box again. Your mail carrier cannot do this as it is his Job by law to deliver All Mail addressed to you. Your Post Master can take fast and serious action.

Dear Paul,
Please accept our apologies for any misunderstanding. The introductory offer that you referred to called for a free pair of pantyhose later followed by a 3-pair shipment unless the customer instructs otherwise. Information that was included with the free pair of hose also mentioned that another shipment would be sent within 4 to 5 weeks.
We are not able to locate an account based on the information you provided. Please call us at 1-800-989-3695 so that we can close this account.
Silkies has been providing millions of satisfied customers quality hosiery products for over 25 years with our Made-To-Order hose service. The offer your friend received was to introduce her to this service.
Thank you for your patience and understanding.
