So I was hired for Silver City Inc. the beginning of June 07'. They promised me $2,000 a month, even if I didn't sell anything. Originally they said that I did not have to sell anything; all I had to do was to set up appointments for a free carpet cleaning. Sounds easy enough, right?

Well I had to go through three days of unpaid training, and at the end of the training I was given a Kirby to use and try to sell over the weekend. I found this rather weird seeing as we were promised that we didn't have to sell anything.

Well I made it through the weekend and came back to work on Monday. I had planned to work three days a week. During our training we were told that we got to pick the days we wanted to work, and that we could stop working at anytime of the day. WRONG!!! They pressured me into signing a contract saying that I would work 6 days a week or I wouldn't get the $2,000. It was written into the contract as an attendance bonus. They asked me to just "Give this Job a month".

Within a month I was selling door to door, working 10+ hours a day, and working 6-7 days a week. They flashed money at me, cars, expensive trips I could win. The thing is no matter how hard I worked I never seemed to get that.

One weekend we were in Carson City selling Kirby's when we were pulled over by the cops. Apparently the owner of the company, Tom West, didn't get the proper licenses for us to go door to door in that city. We were all ticketed and charged with operating a business without a license, and were given a court date and a fine of over $300 dollars.

The next day at work the owner said that not only would he not go to court with us and pay our fines, but he said that it was our fault for us getting the tickets.

We all ended up having to go to court; I had hired a really good lawyer. During court two of the former employees were sentenced to a year in prison, two of the former employees were sentenced to a 1 year suspended sentence. As for me the court let me go with a slap on the wrist but I was ordered to pay the fine.

That following day I went to the office and asked the owner to pay the fine for me. He stated that I owed the company over $500 dollars in what he called "Work Expenses" he said that he would subtract the amount of the fine from what I owed the company and that if I wanted I could either work off the remaining money that I owed him or I could just write him a check.

I had my lawyer come and have a nice little talk with him and whatever I supposedly owed the company was in their words "Forgiven".

When tax time came around this year I never received a 10-99 reporting my earnings, when I called into the office, they denied me ever working for them and claimed they had no clue who I was. So I had to go down to the office where I was told that the reason I didn't get a tax form was because I still owed the company money.

Needless to say stay far away from these slime balls. They claim to be good Christian people who want to give you an opportunity. Truly they are lying, cheating scum who want to try and take everything you have just so they can "earn" another buck.

I used to work for Kirby years ago in Illinois. They pulled the same crap over there. The area distributor actually tried to fist fight me, someone knocked him in the head with a hammer and then came by several weeks in a row, busting all of his windows out with something, every time. They really are the lowest life forms on the planet. Even lower than pedophiles and baby rapers. I don't know about all kirby dealers but there seems to be a pattern all over the country. Also, the hiring process and experience you went through here sounds identical to mine. The supervisor was always trying to get us to do illegal acts and everyone there was heavy pot smokers, sometimes that's all we did. I would stay far away from these punks. They don't know how to work a real job. One more thing, if it was a legitimate company why would they need to use false names and job descriptions to get people to come in for an interview? Who does that? People who are dishonest, that's who. They really aren't a good company to work for unless you are a drug dealer and you just want some type of front.

I am a current employee of Silver City Inc and have been so for a little over 4 months now. I will help shed some light on this situation.

First of all their training weekend we do give a kirby to take home and gain experience with. We have them show friends and family to help them ease into the awkwardness of being in front of strangers. Now if a family member does wish to buy the product yes we will sell it to them but sales are not required for the countdown or the $2000 monthly guaranteed.

Secondly we do ask our new employees to give the job a month if its not for them we say take the $2000 and walk because as you can see this job isnt for everyone. And as for pressured into signing a contract saying 6 days is a bunch of crap. The attendance bonus for new dealers is 5 days a week and one of those days has to be either sat or sun. I myself have never as dealer worked 6 days. And if you do have school or a function that you must attend we really dont care as long as you give at least a 2 day notice.

Now as for flashing cars and trips we do not so much money though.... You see we believe that you need a larger goal than that of just money to motivate you. But you see the contests run for a 3 month time period so you do have 3 months to qualify if you only worked a month i can see why you didnt qualify.

And as for getting pulled over i highly doubt it. I can see you getting stopped on the street but pulled over not a chance. You see Tom West is a former Sacramento Sheriff Deputy so he does enjoy following rules. Now as far as the $300 ticket the only time i have ever seen anyone get a ticket is when they cuss at a customer or mouth off to a cop. Which i have seen 2 times. I myself have been stopped by the cops for complaints from people but have never been ticketed.

And the only reason Tom would not pay your fine is if you were the cause of getting the ticked i.e. mouthing of to customers and policemen the the ticket is your fault.

Haha and the 4 other people with you is a d**n lie. I know for a fact this isnt true because i know 3 of the people that were there on the day this happened. Wow and if it was true you must have been one lucky guy to be the only one out fo 5 people not to go to jail and just get a slap on the wrist.

As for work expenses this is also untrue because everything needed to do your job is provided free of charge. Now there are things that you can purchase that is extra but no where near $500 worth.

Forgiven eh??? Could it have been forgiven because it was never there???

10-99 are mailed out regardless required by Federal law so even if you owed them a million dollars they woulda still sent it to you.

And honestly the only people that i have come across that lie are the ones who decide that they can skate threw in life and not do minimal job requirements then get pissed when they get let go. So because you didnt do you job effectively we are the ones to blame i dont think so.

I can't wait to be a scam artisit kirby dealer so i can fit into your mold of what you think this business is about. There are thousands of offices out there, do you really think there all like the ones you've been too? If someone meets someone he doesn't like he tells the whole world about it. If someone meets a nice kirby man he doesn't think anything of it.

I just had an interview with J&L Distribution in Reno, Nevada this morning. Turns out they were Kirby Vacuums in disguise! When I called for the interview they said it would be setting up appliances in customers' homes The first red flag was how many candidates showed up at the same time I was scheduled for. The office was very stark and ghetto fabulous. Cameron, the manager, was a fast talker in a cheap suit with pink shirt and tie. During our less than ten minute interview he did not even look at my cover letter and resume, nor bat a lash when I told him of my college education. The rest of the applicants looked like they were playing hooky from high school. Several times he was distracted from my seemingly annoying probing questions as a buxom blonde walked by his office window! He mentioned many different products, but the whole office was actually Kirby Vacuums. The experience was very amateur and cheesy. My gut feelings immediately told me that this place reeked of dishonesty. They promise $2,000 a month salary, but after reading all these posts, I am sure that includes way more than 40 hours a week. Sounds like the whole pay scale is the old bait and switch technique. As I drove away they were loading up the white vans with vacuums and young sucker employees. This guy is no spring chicken that fell off the turnip truck yesterday! I am so glad I found this and read about all the scams they pull on their customers and employees. I was just typing "Kirby Vacuums" into Google and immediately "Scams" popped up after the name! Thousands of hits and links under that should tell you something... Thanks everyone, especially the trash talking Kirby reps that exposed their selves as bitter shysters. Go try Amway or Vector Knives next!
