Silvermine Kennels Puppies with major health problems Internet
I purchased a puppy for over $2,500 from Silvermine Kennels two years ago. Within a week after getting the 10 week old puppy he was biting and agressive (very out of character for a English Cream Golden Retriever)... when I contacted the breeder he told me I obviously didn't know how to "train" the puppy and this was not a breeder issue.
Six months later my vet told me the dog had major hip dysplasia and he had never seen a case so bad in such a young dog. I e-mailed the breeder again and he said he didn't "believe" my vet was qualified and got very nasty with me saying he didn't have to acknowledge the health guarentee and I should be "nicer" to him (all I had done was told him about the concerns and explain my story and he got very defensive).
When I first got the puppy he said he had two english creme dogs and they were very hard to get from England. WHen I went back 9 months later (and e-mailed him about the problems) he had over 10 litters in one month! My vet said it was a puppy mill and they were most likely inbreeding the dogs.
My poor dog, whom we love and will always care for, is going to be in major pain from his hips for the rest of his life. We are going to pay thousands and thousands of dollars for the care of his hips. We also are unable to leave him around our kids because he is agressive (even though I train guide dogs for the blind and have trained him, he is still very agressive... very strange for a golden retriever, especially an english creme).
Please DO NOT purchase puppies from this organization. It will not be good for you, and even worse for the puppy. I have contacted the AKC and am working with my vet to do anything else I can to shut this organization down.

You have every excuse in the book as to why it's always everyone else's fault. It NEVER could be your poor breeding practices though? God Forbid ! You have no right being in business. Just google Silverminekennel.com and see all the complaints of sick and major orthopedic issues going on with your puppy mill. You sold me a dog that had his elbow and his ACL repaird in 7 months. My dog weighs 71 lbs. Far from overweight. My dog is well taken care of and cared for...so please don't try and make me swallow your contractual crap. This is a human life, this is money we borrowed from a bank because we love our dog. I would never send anything back to you so you can send us another deformed animal and put my dog down! You being in the dog business has set a precedence with internet breeders that have made consumers turn away from it. Your a thief and a crook...plain english. I hope you suffer the same rath as the poor animals your turning out in your mill.
DO NOT BUY FROM SILVERMINEKENNEL !!! DON'T WASTE YOUR MONEY...HIS LINES ARE WORTHLESS !!

I cannot believe these people!

I cannot believe the ethics of these people! After making my original report to warn people about this kennel, I moved on with my life. I stumbled upon this again (it has now been several years) curious of any other problems. I didn't even know until today the kennel had made a rebuttal (which was untrue saying I had not gotten back in touch with them, AND untrue in saying our puppy had "food aggression"... his aggression was never around food, he has actually bit my daughter twice with NO food around... the first time being when he was only about 5 months old).
I am appalled that this man has flat our LIED about me and my dog... I don't know how he can claim he spoke with a "shelter" that had my dog, when I still have my dog today! He is not overweight, especially since we continually pay money to have him do water therapy with our vet to help his hips since he is in constant pain. He likes to swim, but running like a normal dog makes him sore and whine while trying to get comfortable later at night. He is currently living with my mother because I worry about his biting around my small children. But as soon as they are old enough to be careful around him and respectful of his space, we can bring him home.
It is truly sad what these people are doing for money... and since they treat precious animals so horribly, I guess I shouldn't be surprised they would totally lie to try to protect their puppy mill. Please don't buy a puppy from these people.

Kimberly's pup has been rehomed by the shelter where she left him. The lady that took care of him there informs me that he does not have dysplasia and that in the month that she had him that he showed no agrression of any kind at anytime. She stated again that she would buy a pup from us for use as a therapy dog.

I have just been contacted by the shelter that Kimberly has given this dog to. I spoke at length with the lady that is taking care of him. He has been shaved. He has been overfed, he is overweight. This is one of the leading causes of Hip Dysplasia and one the reasons that our contract says that the guarantee for hips is at our disgression. She tells me that he exhibits no signs of food aggression or any type of aggression for that matter. If she didn't already have 5 therapy dogs she would keep him for that purpose. She said that he is a "wonderful dog" and that we "should be proud of him"
Kimberly accused of mistreating dogs, this dog has been mistreated by her and now she has given it to a shelter. So much for the thought that she could not bear to send it back to us for an exchange puppy. She demanded a refund and that she be allowed to keep the puppy. I think this vindicates us.

This lady received an 8 week old pup from us. When she called at 10 weeks to tell me that the pup was showing signs of food aggression I explained to her that food aggression in a puppy is a training problem and suggested several things that she could do to change the behavior. She told me that she knew how to train a dog and ended the conversation. When the pup was about 6 months old she called to tell me that the pup had been diagnosed with hip dysplacia. I ask her to send the xrays to OFA for evaluation and that if they did indeed come back dysplastic that we would gladly replace the dog for her. We never heard from her again until now.
