I also got an unauthorized charge of $84 on my Capital One card. The charge appeared on 12/16. As some others have indicated, I made a purchase from HSN Improvements catalog in mid-November using my Capital One card. I don't know whether or not there is a connection.

I never heard of this company until the charge appeared on my statement, and I don't use AOL, so the company's claim that people clicked on a pop-up to sign up for their service is pure BS.

I'm issuing a charge-back to Capital One to get my money refunded. If you want additional revenge, keep dialing their toll-free number (888) 366-1305 and hang up when you finally get a live person on the line, which averages 1 1/2 to 3 minutes. The toll free call is on their dime! Everyone call that number!

Also, if you tie up their phone lines, you are doing a public service to unsuspecting victims who are about to lose their hard-earned money

Customer Service Reps love hang ups

#2UPDATE EX-employee responds

Thu, January 01, 2004

As a former cs rep for capital one, I loved hang ups.... it improved my statistics and kept me employed.

I recently got an erroneous charge on a cc for 1500!!! It turns out "fat fingers" was the cause. The merchants employee was unable to scan the card and inverted some numbers which caused my account to be charged $1500. It wasn't the credit card company's fault. And they are deligently trying to get their money. I just had to go thru the dispute procedure just like everyone else, to have it properly removed.
