My wife had an unknown charge on her Discover Card for $84.00 from "Simple Escapes Travel Agency." When she called this company they explained that the charge was placed as a result of her ordering sheets from The Company Store last month. After a long series of evasion and resistance the charge was removed. Whether the Company Store knew about this, or recklessly sold our information so that Simple Illegal Charges Travel Agency could screw us, I am holding them responsible. I have sent them a similar e-mail, and have instucted them to remove our personal information, and never send us another catalog.

Let me be clear, I have always thought of the Company Store as a top rate company which sold quality items. But when we ordered products from them we expected our confidential information to be kept safe and secure. Also, if we wanted sheets, no one should have assumed that we also wanted to be illegally charged for other products or services from other companies.

I have not heard from the Company Store yet, but I just wrote to them earlier today. I have filed a complaint with the Michigan Attorney General's Office. This was not an honest mistake or a misunderstanding. This was clearly an effort to pass a fraudulent charge.

When I searched for "Simple Pleasures" travel agency. This was the first site to pop up. It seems they operate jointly with other companies. The Company Store may not have know this would happen, but they are responsible for sharing our names and credit card number. I can not do business with a company like that.

Thank you for giving me the opportunity to share my ripoff with you. I hope it will be helpful to others.

All phone calls are recorded

#2UPDATE Employee

Sun, February 08, 2004

A law was put into effect as of April 2003 that
requires all companies offering these types of
programs to record all phone calls. The program
is offered when the customer is placing their
order. If the customer accepts the program, they
are then read the terms and conditions of Simple
Escapes and are asked by the agent to verify the
last 4 digits of their credit card(that is
required by law).

Unfortunatly, there are employees who would push the "accept" button even when the customer had rejected the offer.

Well as the saying goes, one bad apple spoils
the whole bunch. This law is there to protect
you the consumer from those bad apples and to
protect the honest employees from being fired.

If a customer calls to complain that
they have been charge for this program
fraudulantly a manager will look up the order,
find out who placed it and listen to the phone
call.

If the customer rejected the program but
the agent accepted it anyway, their employment
will be terminated.

I personally have had 3 complaints made against me for this, my supervisor listened to the call and in all three cases the customer did accept but must have forgotten about it. Don't get me wrong, I know how upsetting it is to find a charge on your credit card and not know what it is for. And these days you call to place a simple order and you get bombarded with offers, would you like to try this, are you interested in that?

It is very frustrating. I am truelysorry this happened to you.
