In late April 2005, I ordered by phone the vacuum-plus-steamer deal offered on the TV Guide channel. It was charged to my Visa account May 9. In early June, I phoned the customer service number supplied by Visa (800-711-8357)to see where my order was. It took an entire East Coast morning of busy signals to reach the recording explaining hours of operation on Pacific Time. By then I was out of time.

So I tried again a day or two later. After another half-day's busy signals, I finally reached customer service. Holding for about 25 minutes got me a representative who stated that it would be shipped to me on 6-10 and I would receive it within 5-7 days. If I objected to that, I could cancel the order.

It wasn't shipped, I didn't receive it, so today I checked again. Same number, same time-consuming process of redialing to get past busy signals and holding to get a representative. Got a different story this time: "shipment hasn't arrived from Taiwan yet," but they're expecting it "within two weeks" and will ship it within 7-10 days and I'll get it 5-7 days later.

I objected and asked for another number. They gave me a toll-free number for Singer: 800-716-8667. After an unconscionable wait, a recording instructed me to call customer service "due to high call volume." (I must be one of a great many customers seeking more satisfaction than the party line affords.)

Eventually I got yet another helpless customer service rep who repeated the party line, including that I can put up with it or cancel the order. If I didn't WANT the product, I wouldn't have ordered it. So I didn't cancel, yet, because the party line assures me that I should receive it within another month.

If I were to cancel now, Singer would have had the use of my money and I would have had all this nuisance and NOTHING to show for it but wasted time. In the hope that eventually there will be some payoff, and in the absence of other options for negotiation, I let it ride once more.

It is outrageous, nevertheless, that I they have my money for so long a time and I have nothing, including no convenient means of discovering what's up, no recourse but cancellation, and not even access to an accountable company representative. They should be required to return my money with interest if they don't suppy the product by a date certain.

Why can't they wait and charge my card when they ship the product, the way reputable vendors do? Why are they allowed to conduct business in this manner? Why are we such suckers as to cooperate in their scams!

There oughta be a law....

Ms. Khrisna...you insult my intelligence. I remember my conversation with the person whom I place my order with. The final amount given to me from the "customer service" person from Singer was EXTREMLY different from the amount billed to my credit card. How is it that so many people that have reported this FRAUD on this site have had the exact same situation. I highly doubt that we had all made such an error. I believe, that the customer service representative...WHO OBVIOUSLY SPOKE POOR ENGLISH....billed be for every other bull crap item or service he tried to sell me while I was placing the order.

I had to finally tell the rep that all I wanted was the offer that was was given during the informercial. Not the upgrade to an longer cord or the magazine he tried to sell me as well as other crap. Ms. Kharisna, you have been scammed and I truely hope you enjoy the product that you have received. Cause, you paid an awful lot of money for it!

Fraud? False Advertisment? Not true.--Singer Lazer Vac customer explains

#6Consumer Suggestion

Fri, July 15, 2005

Singer products have been a household favorite in my family so I knew there had to be a misunderstanding somewhere with this Buy 1 Get 1 free promo I saw on back in May. Just like all you angry customers, a bill I thought was $150 came to almost $300!!!. I've been in a situation like this. Like any other worried customer, I found this site and realized I wasn't alone.

Since Singer is a name that I've grown to love and trust , I could't say its fraud or being ripped-off without having an explanation. I called Custormer service. I let them explain the bill. I was stubborn and went ballistic when I was told I was the one misunderstood! To calm me down, I was asked if I would like to listen to the recording of me placing the order.

And trust me, don't yell at them first because to an embarrassment, I was wrong. I definitely did not bother to listen to her and ended up saying yes to a 2nd offer as well as ignoring the details in getting the free steamer. Oops!
As an infomercial fanatic, nothing is ever free.

When I read these comments , it makes me wonder why blame Singer when it goes both ways. Any informercial advertising their product make you see what you want to see. That is how we consumers get enticed into calling in to order.
Singer is doing what every other company is doing to advertise their products.

You see and hear what you want on TV but stop and listen because there are more offers thrown at you. If you are overly excited with the infomercial of course when you call to order, you say yes to whatever just to get the product.

Just as easy to place an order is as easy to change the order. This was over 1 month ago. I received my vacuums, received my steamer, and received my credit. I'm grateful that the customer service rep was kind enough to walk me through my order even though I was being a b***h.

If I cancelled, I would of never realized how wonderful these products worked!!
Fraud? False Advertising? Not true. Its our stubbornness.

Don't blame them for overcharging your order without permission when in fact you know you gave them your credit card account. Make sure you know what you agree on buying before putting the blame on someone else.
