I ordered the Lazer Storm Vac (buy one get one free) with a free lazer steamer by telephone September 25, 2005. I later checked my credit card data online; although this order had not been charged to my account, it was obvious they intended to charge too much and send more than I ordered.

I figured this out by subtracting my available credit from my credit limit and then comparing that amount with my unbilled transactions.

I sent the company an e-mail message to cancel the order early in the morning of September 28. They sent me an automated reply saying they would "personally respond" within the next 24 hours. They never did. I tried calling their phone number but could not reach a live person.

They charged my account $471.67 on September 30 and shipped the item October 4. Fedex left the box on my doorstep today, October 10. I hauled the box back (unopened) to our local Fedex so they could return it to the sender.

I sent the company another e-mail (October 4)asking them to cancel before they notified me (by e-mail October 7) that the order had already been shipped. The personalizd response to my second e-mail instructed me to call their toll-free customer service line. Again, I could not reach a live person -- but the automated message said to send an e-mail.

Get it? The automated telephone response instructed me to send an e-mail message, but the response to my e-mail said to call their telephone number! My e-mail messages started bouncing after that.

The credit card company has given me a conditional credit of $471.67. I can prove that I asked customer service to cancel the order several days before they shipped it; hopefully, this fact will be decisive and I won't be out anything.
