Complaint Review: Singer Smart Scissors

This is a current TV ad, for 2 Smart Scissors + a fabric shaver for $19.95 + 7.95 S/H. For purposes of identification, because I know multiple companies sell this product, the phone # in the ad is 800-851-0011. All they provide is a P.O. Box # for an address.
When you call the number in the ad, it's not really the company selling the product, but an order-taking company. The guy says he has no specifics about the company, other than a customer service number (the one I listed above).

When you call that number, you're told, again, that they're just a customer service company, & they only have the name of the product & the p.o. address.

So let me get this straight--they don't want you to know where they are, or WHO they are, they've outsourced both their order-taking and their customer service, and even THEY don't know who or where the company is. Hmmm, seems to me they're not exactly eager to have a person check them out, since they've made it IMPOSSIBLE!

I think I'll pass on ordering from this TV ad, thanks, but does anyone have any brilliant ideas how/whether it might have been possible to check them out? Also, I thought companies selling thru the mail (including TV/radio ads) HAD to disclose a physical address??

Kind of reminds me of the company I got hold of one time from an 800-# on a package of razors. Said they didn't service that brand & hung up. I called back & talked to a supervisor, & was told that's exactly what the girl was supposed to do, and no they would NOT tell me who they were (the company, I mean, not the individuals)! Is that really legal--for them to refuse to disclose the name of the company I'm talking to??!
