I purchased a 2011 Ford Escape and was offered the Perma Plate warranty to cover rust or other body damage.  I added the protection to my purchase.  The warranty was for 5 Years on the new vehicle.  I recently discovered rust developing over the rear wheels along with rust at the seam where the exterior tailgate panel meets the interior panel.  I filed a claim with Siskin Enterprises, Inc. and was denied.  Their reasoning was that the damage was "inconsistent with your warranty coverage".  The warranty coverage is as follows:  "Your Paintguard warranty exclusively covers damage to the treated exterior painted body panels cause by weather induced fading, oxidation, loss of gloss or surface rust caused by industrial fallout, as well as stains caused by bird droppings, isect, water spots, tree sap, or acid rain."  I replied to their email with a definition of "oxidation" as follows:  OXIDATION:  Oxidation is the loss of electrons during a reaction by a molecule, atom or ion.  Oxidation occurs when the oxidation state of a molecule, atom or ion is increased.  An older meaning of oxidation was when oxygen was added to a compound.  Example:  Iron combines with oxygen to form iron oxide or RUST.  The iron is said to have oxidized into rust.  Their response is "warranty coverage applies exclusively to the treated exterior painted body panels.  As the product is applied to the exterior paint, it cannot prevent rust forming on the underlying panel beneath the painted surface, including any parts that may contain iron.

When asked if I wanted the protection for my vehicle at the time of purchase, the dealer assured me that if rust were to occur on the car during the warranty period, it would be covered under the Perma Plate warranty.
