How does one get charged 250 euros for a one day economy class car rental? Rent from Sixt in Iceland to find out. Upon arriving at Keflavik airport early morning in March, we picked up a car we reserved online. It should be mentioned that although only one couple stood in front of us on the line, it took us 30 minutes to be serviced. There were multiple attendants available but none of them seemed to be working. Our order on line was to pick up at the airport for one day then return to rekyavik. The price quoted online was 50 euros . They sold us on dust storm insurance for 15 extra. We did the golden circle, the typical route for a one day rental and returned the car with 7/8th a tank of gas. 3 months later, we receive a bill for 250 euros. Why? They charged us 35 euros for dropping off the car at a different location (never mentioned by Sixt). They charged 100 euros for miles beyond the limit. I will admit this was on the receipt but never mentioned on line or in person. In fact, the primary reason people would rent from this airport was to do exactly what we did so it's a scam to create this minimum with such a high penalty. And lastly they charged 50 euros for 1/8th of a tank of gas, again never mentioned online or in person.
