My daughter was conned into "joining" the Smart Shopper Club yesterday. They kept calling her yesterday (about 6 times) and when she finally answered (as they wouldn't stop), they were very fast talking that it caught her off guard and confused her.

They asked her for her credit card number as they have to verify if it matches the one they have on file. Being only in college and naive, she gave it to them, after which they told her that she has joined the club and will be billed $3.95 a week. The charged was placed on her debit card immediately. They told her she had to call  877-398-5752 to cancel her membership. She called immediately after the call (last night) but was told her info was not in the database and to call tomorrow.

I called a few minutes ago, and they asked for a membership # (which wasn't provided). They asked for name, zip code and still could find a record of the "order". We tried looking up via pone number and email address (we received an email confirmation thanking us for joining) , and also no record. She said it takes 3 to 4 days for the info to be in the database, and to try calling back later. I'm pretty sure, they won't have it later.

Our bank sent us an email notification of irregular debit card activity. So we are filing a fraud report and have the card deactivated. These people need to be stopped!
