If you ever consider sending faxes online, beware Smartfax.com, who seem to be all too eager to oblige you when you first subscribe with them (on a trial fee-free basis), and suddenly afterwards begin billing you on a monthly basis.

This all sounds, more or less expected, until you realize that they do not allow you to unsubscribe, refuse to acknowledge the receipt of faxes that you sent them, promise to look into matters, and meanwhile continue to bill you sweetly each successive month.

My wife tried to unsubscribe 4-5 times, either talking with a representative online, on the phone, via chat, or by sending faxes. Each time she was promised a speedy solution, and each time the customer representative promptly and dutifully "forgot" about taking care of her unresolved issue. Finally, we had to bring matters to our bank, in order to make sure that something is eventually done against this company.

In summary, smartfax.com seems to conceal a fraudulent company policy behind a decently designed html facade; they will not hesitate to suck up your money and be extremely slow (if at all obliging) in cancelling your account.
