IT WAS A WEEK BEFORE CHRISTMAS HOLIDAYS AND I WENT TO A SMARTSTYLES SALON TO GET MY BEAUTIFUL HAIR CUT TO GO SEE THE FAMILY WITH....I APPROACHED THE COUNTER AND SIGNED IN AND THE STYLIST CAME AND TOLD ME TO GO TO HER CHAIR..I TOLD HER I WANTED MY HAIR CUT AND THINNED....MY HAIR THEN WAS ABOUT 26 INCHES LONG FROM SCALP TO BOTTOM. I TOLD THE STYLIST I WANTED MY HAIR CUT TO JUST BELOW CHIN.(EVEN WITH HAIR LINE IN BACK.) AND THINNED OUT DRASTICALLY BECAUSE MY HAIR IS SO THICK IF NOT I WOULD LOOK LIKE A MUSHROOM HEAD...THE STYLIST WAS VERY QUICK WITH TRYING TO GET EVERYTHING DONE AS IF SHE HAD TO CUT SO MANY HEADS IN ONE DAY. SHE WAS SINGING A SONG ON THE RADIO. SHE FINISHED CUTTING MY HAIR AND STARTED TO THIN IT OUT..THIS IS WHEN APPARANTLY ONE OF HER FAVORITE SONGS CAME ON THE RADIO IN THE SALON SHE STARTED SINGING LIKE IT WASN'T NO TOMMORROW...SHE MADE A STATEMENT TO ME THAT SHE NEEDED TO THIN SOME MORE RIGHT HERE AND GRABS A CHUNK OF MY HAIR AT THE BACK LEFT SIDE OF MY HEAD(TOP LAYER OF HAIR) REACHES FOR THE THINNING SHEARS AND CUTS THE CHUNK OF HAIR ONLY ABOUT 1 AND HALF INCH LONG....SHE DIDN'T GRAB THE THINNING SHEARS...SEE IN HER RUSH SHE GRABBED THE SCISSORS INSTEAD OF THE THINNING SHEARS SO NOW I HAVE A HUGE GAP OF MISSING HAIR IN THE BACK OF MY HEAD THAT IS A TOP LAYER...SO AS I WAS ONCE A LADY WITH VERY BEAUTIFUL THICK LONG BLOOMING HAIR I NOW HAVE HAIR THAT IS ABOUT 1 INCH LONG ALL THE WAY UP THE BACK OF MY HEAD....I AM EXTREMELLY UPSET BEINGS NOW I HAVE TO GO TO MY FAMILIES HOUSE FOR CHRISTMAS IN THE DEAD OF WINTER HERE AND HAVE NO HAIR...MY HAIR IS MY GLORY..ITS ONE OF THE ONLY THINGS I LIVE TO MESS WITH EVERYDAY...NOW I HAVE NONE....THE LONGEST PART OF MY HAIR IS NOW ABOUT 4-5 INCHES LONG...I LEFT THE SALON IMMEDIATELY (I WASN'T ABOUT TO LET ANYONE ELSE THERE TOUCH MY HAIR) I MEAN LOOK WHAT THEY HAD RUSHED AND DONE TO ME ALLREADY....THE MANAGER DID OFFER TO FIX IT BUT AFTER THIS CARELESS STYLIST MADE HER MISTAKE SHE IMMEDIATELY STATES JUST LIKE THIS OH MY GOD!!! I JUST CUT YOUR HAIR...IM SORRY THERE WAS NO APOLOGETIC TONE OF VOICE AT ALL SHE SEEMED LIKE SHE WANTED TO LAUGH AT IT...AND THEN IMMEDIATELY WHILE IM CRYING REPEATEDLY ASKS WHAT DO YOU WANT ME TO DO NOW? WHAT DO YOU WANT ME TO DO NOW? I WAS SOOOOOOOOO UPSET BEINGS THAT THIS WAS MY HOLIDAY HAIRCUT AND THE FAMILY THAT IM GOING TO SEE ONLY SEES ME ONCE EVERY OTHER YEAR..AND THAT THE OTHER FAMILY (IN-LAWS) ARE OF PENTECOSTAL ORIGIN AND HAVE ALWAYS LOVED MY FLOWING HAIR. I HAVE BEFORE STYLIST, AFTER STYLIST, AND AFTER REPAIR JOB PICTURES AVAILABLE FOR ANYONE THAT WANTS TO SEE...IT JUST SO HAPPEN THAT MY HUBBY TOOK SOME PICS OF ME AT THE COMPUTER JUST LIKE 2 DAYS BEFORE THIS INCIDENT OCCURRED. PLEASE ALL TAKE MY ADVICE STAYYYYYYYYYY AWAYYYYYYYYYYY FROM SMARTSTYLES...THEY ARE NOT A SALON THEY ARE A BUTCHER SHOP

When you see that your stylist is preoccupied with something other than total concentration on you, say something. You don't have to be rude to be thorough; just make a remark like, "I'm real particular about my hair." That would definitely get my attention.

I am SO SO sorry that this was done to you. For the first part, the fact that the "stylist" was singing to the radio and rushing through your haircut should have been a red flag. But I do feel that just because one Smart Style employee screws up, we ALL get placed in the same "butcher" category.

I currently work for the Grenada, MS salon and I have to say that as far as how I tend to my customers is concerned, I would NEVER try to rush through a haircut much less worry about what is on the radio. In fact, I have had my supervisor scold me for not being fast enough. I'm sorry, but, I'd rather take my time to get the cut right than rush through it and completely destroy it.

These salons do have quality stylists working in them, but they are I admit few and far between. I am in NO WAY trying to toot my own horn, but I do my absolute best to make sure that my client is satisfied before he/she leaves my chair. And that is why I get a little ticked when people lump us ALL together with the stylists who just don't give a crap.

I think Regis Corporation (owners of Smart Style) should hire only experienced stylists and require references from their clients to get a better feel of who's cut out for the job (no pun intended) and who needs to apply at Burger King. As I said before, I sincerely apologize for the mess that you have gone through; I can say that if you were visiting the Grenada salon and allowed me to do the cut that would not have happened.
