Smith and Hawken Upscale gardening store Do not stand behind their products!
I purchased a "solar fountain" from the Houston store in May 2000, then in winter (Nov. for here) I cleaned it as instructed on the instuctions, and put it away in the garage.
In March 2001, the "solar fountain" no longer worked. I took it back to the Houston store (since it had a year guarentee) and they gave me another one. This defective model worked for less than 6 weeks!
I wrote a letter of complaint to the main office of Smith and Hawken. I received a letter of apology and a $25.00 gift certificate!!! The price of the fountain was $89.00 plus tax. It costs me $25.00 to get to their store!!!!
What a rip-off!!!!! Buy cheap & if it breaks expect what I got!!

I worked for Smith and Hawken Corporate Office,
Mill Valley, CA for a couple of years. While
there, I was amazed at the company's commitment
to the customers. I have even seen a situation
where a customer was allowed to return a pair of
shoes that were over two years old for a new pair
for the simple reason that they worn in the
sole. I have seen them send buttons to clothing
had lost button at no charge to customers.
Smith and Hawken is a rare company that cared for
customers, at least when I was there in the 90's.
