I brought my Sailboat to Snead Island Boat Works for seasonal storage and repair work. They charged $146.00 to snap on two small canvas boat hatch covers. At their hourly fee of $100 per hour, that's 90 minutes to snap on two hatch covers. One hatch cover was about 8" square, the other about 20" square. When I questioned the charge, I was told by the Manager, Matt Mathews, that they didn't need my business, and I was told to go elsewhere for the work; I had paid over $600 to have the Boat hauled and put on stands there.

I have since learned that since Mr. Mathews took over managment of the facility, that overcharges have become common. They do not allow boat owners access to their boats in the Yard, so I could not snap the covers on myself.
