SNK Fence Poor workmanship and will not return phone calls Forked River, New Jersey
I gave the owner, John, one of the biggest jobs he ever had about 10 years ago. It was worth $20K. He did good work and I was happy. I recommended him to my friends and neighbors in the area when appropriate.
Recently, I was victim to Hurricane Sandy and my fence that stood without any problems for all that time was damaged. Of course, I called John for the repair.
He actually answered the phone when I called, which I now know to be a complete fluke because nobody ever answers the phone at SNK... they screen with voicemail and selectively answer.
They were out quickly to give me an estimate which I thought was fair priced and I signed to proceed. After you sign is when the service starts to go downhill.
The rescheduled twice with only hours notice but they insist someone be there to do the work. My problem to make myself available at a whim...
When they finally did the work, all was actually quite good. There were a few exceptions: the guy spilling concrete all over my lawn and the post I caught them cutting a foot short (I have the photo of the old one laying next to the piece they cut off).
I questioned the guy on the post and he said he had some type of problem clearing the hole but assured me all would be good. I noticed they used very scant concrete and there was a huge hole left in the dirt around that post. Didn t really impact me at that time...
Less than three weeks later, first windy day comes along and that exact post comes loose, dropping all of the pickets and exposing a large opening in the fence. I use this fence to contain my German Shepherd so it s a big deal and it s not just ornamental.
I called them up and spoke to Lori. I explained the short post, etc. She swore they would make good and they would not forget me and call me the next week after Christmas . I reconfirmed the dilemma with my dog and she said she understood and asked me to deal with the inconvenience... fair enough.
Almost two weeks later and three phone calls unanswered, I took matters into my own hands. Fact is, that hole accepted 150 pounds of concrete and I ended up needing to fix it myself. I left one last message thanking them for blowing me off and also telling them I would write this review.
Three days later I get a voicemail from Lori claiming that they came and looked at the fence and nothing was wrong and only the pickets fell out (which is impossible unless the posts move). They said they would need to charge me to fix it but they also couldn t get anyone to me for a month. She also went further to say my fence was old and outdated (solid vinyl) and they couldn t guarantee it every time a wind storm comes along. Lori obviously had managed to contract amnesia and nobody was ever at my house. Too busy to call me back, too busy to fix my fence but not too busy to come by and look at it and say it s fine. Can you say liar?
Bottom line: Don t expect any customer service from these people... or even an answer to your phone call. Breaks my heart to see John doing business like this. These guys will only be at your house one time and when they leave with the check, good luck on seeing them for anything that doesn t make them money.
Also, I saw John post some guys personal info on a review after he got a bad one. Contractors like this repulse me.
