Should have Purchased FRV

The problem is if you're going to spend $15,000 moving furniture across the country, then you really needed to purchase Full Replacement Valuation, or FRV, for your move.  FRV acts almost like insurance, but isn't (movers are prohibited by law from selling insurance for a move and your items can't be insured by the mover's policies).  The question should be whether the mover even offers FRV?

Now, if you purchased FRV, would you have collected $9,000?  No, because the furniture isn't worth $9,000.  Did you pay $9,000 for the furniture?  Perhaps, but it doesn't matter.  For purposes of the claim, valuation is based upon the undepreciated value of the item damaged.  It's like buying a car brand new - the minute you drive it off the lot, it is no longer worth the price you pay by maybe about 20%-25%.

Would you have collected a lot more than $105?  Absolutely.  Now, FRV isn't free.  There is a cost associated with FRV that you have to pay the mover.  However, if you're already going to be spending $15,000 moving furniture with a high value across the country in a non-air-ride trailer, then going cheap on your valuation is poor planning.  If the mover doesn't offer you FRV prior to the move, then you chose the wrong mover.

THEY ARE THE WORST LIARS AND THEIVES IN THE INDUSTRY.  The entire industry is full of them and I assure you, they aren't the worst.  However, you moved from Florida, which is where most of the worst liars and scam artists are located.
