I used this service for payday loans last year. I received a letter a month ago via email saying that I owe them from an unpaid loan dated January, 2005.

As I moved and changed back accounts about that time last year, it could be true that I owe them for an unpaid balance. I have no problem paying a company to which I owe money.

My problem is their practic/process. First, no phone calls or letters via mail. Just now received an email a year later saying if I do not pay a discounted 60% of the balance within 30 days they will place my account with third party collections.

The letter does not give an address or details on how to send the money. They ask you to call 1-800-772-9803. After much waiting, someone answers asks for your account and says what you need to pay. They ask for your bank information or say it can be sent western union or via money gram. They do not allow you to send payment via physical mail (won't give you and address) and won't let you may by credit card. With credit card payment or by sending a physical check at least I could have some recourse should they turn out to be fraud. I do not trust sending these folks money to a moneygram company that does not even closely resemble the name of Sonic.

I will pay, but I want to do it in a secure way where I can be assured the money will indeed go to settling this debt - for now I will assume the debt is valid.

Also - to what third party collection agency or more importantly to what (and when) credit reporting agency will this be reported if I do not act within their time limit.

I see postings that say they are in Canada - not licensed anywhere, etc.

Any help/advice?

Address to Send Money

William,

I have dealt with Sonic Payday, and I will not do so ever again. You can send payment to them via a Money Gram. The Money Gram agent will give you a receipt #, which is your prove money has been sent to them. To send money to them via Money Gram, you will need to use their " Receiver Code" #, which is: 4476
You will fill out the Money Gram by the following:
Receiver Code 4476
Company: Sonic

They will use either Universal Fidelity or Taylor James & Associates to collect this debt. However, for either of the collection agency to collect a debt, they need to be licensed in your state to do so. You can contact your Attorney General in your state to find this out, if they are register or licensed to do business.

Hope this help!
