My husband and i were brand new to the area- military, and wanted a commuter car. We needed something small because we lived a little far from the base. We came in and bought a 2005 honda with cash. We were told when you do that the dealer is supposed to give you a copy of the old title? We didn't get anything. After two days the car was in the mechanic.$ 1,400 for so many problems. The mechanic said it looked as if the car had been totaled them put back together with spare parts.
We had to send the car to a second mechanic to finish repairs the first could not- another $1,400. AND there are still repairs to be done. We have filled a complaint with the BBB and the DMV. If it turns out the car was a salvage or has a salvage title they have to refund ALL of our money. the car was not sold as a salvage, nor were we aware of a salvage title. They do not return phone calls, and mess up ALL the paperwork. We still don't have our tags or plates.! These people are a major rip off. We are seeking legal council.

SUCH lies !!!! The BBB and DMV has been trying to get ahold of this company for almost a FULL year! they would not respond to complaints. The car was a piece of crap and were were told "it's a great little car"Too late- should have dealt with us when it was just us..... this is going to a whole new level....... Good luck!!**** We had to buy ANOTHER car because the one we bought was in a bad accident before we bought it and was worth - $400 KBB.... which wasn't disclosed. the price of our new car purchase has been included in damages we seek.

The vehicle purchased by these people was not a Salage vehicle. The complaint was a total lie and should not be considered valid. The vehicle they purchased may have had mechanical issues but It was most deffinately not a salvage title that Is illegal to sell and not disclose. Once they received the title In the mail they realized It was not salvage. The vehicle they purchased had been on our car lot for 45 minutes before the couples wife demanded they purchase the vehicle. It was a 2005 Honda Civic that had 350,000 miles on it! You cannot purchase a vehicle with that many miles and not take It to a mechanic to have it checked out. We informed the couple that we had not had a chance to investigate everything about the vehicle and that If they bought It and had problems It would be there responsibility. In fact the sales man tried to have them switch vehicles because he was un sure of vehicle condition but the wife insisted. When you purchase a vehicle without a warranty and sign a AS IS there is no legal action that can be taken, all repairs are your responsibility. BUT we do feel badly that the couple had a bad experience but we did try to warn them something could be wrong that we did not catch. Lastly when you purchase a vehicle the dealership is not required by law to give a copy of the title, if the customers asks for one the dealership can decide wether to or not but I dont know where they are getting their laws from because that is deffinitely not a law in the State of Florida. The couple also received their plates within 30 days of purchase.

If you feel your vehicle may carry a salvage/rebuilt title, get the VIN number off the car itself and check it through this Florida DMV website:
https://www7.flhsmv.gov/vehiclecheck/
If the vehicle does carry a brand on the title, then the dealer is obligated by law to disclose it to you at some point during the sale and will usually have you sign a statement attesting to that fact. If they didn't, they must credit you the purchase price of your vehicle and can be subject to fine from the Florida DMV.
However, if your car doesn't carry an undisclosed brand on the title and has simply been badly wrecked and 'fixed,' there is nothing in the law that states this must be disclosed. Accident records, frame damage, etc (anything that isn't BRANDED on the title) doesn't have to be disclosed.
Also, the dealership does legally have 30 days to convey ownership via title of the car to you. If its been over 30 days since the date of purchase, you should call DMV and report them.
