I purchased a Sony Vaio laptop at Office Depot less than a year ago because it was the best one they had, and of course, the most expensive. The unit worked great until about 5 weeks ago when it stopped working. I called Sony to file a claim, and after running some tests over the phone, they determined that it needed a new hardrive. They said they would ship the part right away with instructions and new restoration disks. 2 weeks went by, and nothing. I called them again and they said that the part was backordered and would be shipped soon. 2 more weeks went by and I called them again. This time they said that they shipped the part but had lost the tracking information. They said that to make up for the wait they would send someone to do an onsite repair. Gary, a technician shows up about a week later, changes the hardrive, and after 2 hours, determines that it still doesn't work. He says that he'll order a new motherboard and come back in a day or two. I wait 5 days, and nothing. Nobody comes back, no parts, no phone calls. So I call Gary the repair guy and asked him what the holdup is. He says that Sony never sent him the parts or a new work order. So here I am weeks later, still no computer, still no service.

Sony had no problem taking $1300 from me, but afterwards, they don't give a crap about their customers. They go out of their way  to give you the runaround and route your calls to somebody in the jungle of India, or somewhere in Peru. I truly think they're trying to wear me down so that I give up. In the meantime, I will be warning everybody I can about Sony's lack of service, lack of credibility, shameful attitude, broken promises and lack of common courtesy. For the price that I paid, I DESERVE A WORKING COMPUTER. Never again will I purchase anything with the name "Sony" on it!!. And now that I'm done filing this report, I'm going to put together a video describing my bottom of the barrel experience with Sony, and I going to upload it to Youtube for the whole world to view.

Just wanted to add that I've recently had the EXACT same experience. Ordered the Vaio directly from Sony online, they took over 1 month to ship it, but of course took my $1,100 immediately. 5 months later, it is a complete LEMON. Wasted an entire day on 3 different phone calls to their tech support, all of which are clearly reading off a cue card. No, they're not in the U.S., and I've yet to speak with anyone who does anything but read from a cue card of some kind.

They say they're going to send a tech to my home to repair, all the while improperly diagnosing the problem. Almost 2 weeks goes by before a tech shows up, to discover the notebook has a faulty motherboard. What do they do? Why they put me through the exact same cue-card process, sending a tech yet again after he receives the parts.... a motherboard???... which will likely take another 2 weeks.

So, the support is absolutely terrible, and they'll put you through months of 'getting rid' of you, and offer no alternatives. I agree, Sony, both in product quality and service, is the absolute worst brand ever. It's quite clear I was wildly ripped off for $1,100 with nothing but a piece of junk to show for it.
