J.J. ARMSTRONG AND SOUTH CAR MOTORSPORTS LLC ARE LIARS AND CHEATS

I bought a 1932 Ford roadster from South Car Motorsports LLC on 12-14-19. The salesman was J.J. Armstrong. I am writing this review as a warning to all potential buyers to stay away from this Dealership and salesman.

He said the car ran great and was very reliable with no issues at all. His ad even stated it was very reliable and daily driver quality. He told me I would want to do more business with him once I got the car. J.J Armstrong and his sleazy dealership is Located in Fort Myers Florida at 16120 Lee Rd #170 zipcode 33912. I am located on other side of the country in Chico California.

So I was not able to look at car in person or hear in person. I relied on his word and on his ad on eBay He assured me the car was in great shape and ran great with no issues. His ad on his own website still says that! It just had a few tiny rock chips he said.

Soon as I took delivery in Chico California I knew something was wrong with engine. It had a very hard time starting and would not idle until very warm. It back fired and had to be restarted many times with me staying on the gas until it got very warm as I said to finally idle. Once it did idle I drove it less than a block and could tell it had no power at all. It would run yes and was operable but clearly had major problems with engine. I did not need anytime to figure this out as anyone who has ever driven a car would know right away.

I called J.J and told him and he said he would check with some hot rod clubs in my area and get back to me as what could be wrong. He never called back of course as he knew the engine was bad all along. I drove the car the next day to a hot rod repair shop with 20 years of experience.

They checked out the engine and explained the number one and number two cylinders were bad. They said it had way to much total timing and had been run that way so long it likely caused the damage. They took pictures and video of the damage of the two cylinders.

I was able to get a hold of J.J after this and told him that the engine was bad and that he needed to pay for the repairs. He said it ran fine when he had it which of course it could not have as I put no miles on it and engine could not have gone bad from sitting in transport vehicle. I said this to him and he said he would talk to the repair shop.

I got him to call the mechanic and everything was explained to him. I called him after this and he said he would send all pics and video to his mechanic and get back to me. He of course never did as he knew he sold a car with a bad engine to me. I tried calling and texting him for three days after this and zero response. I know he is at a dealer auction now buying more cars on January 2 2020 as he told me a week before this that he would be. I can not let this go and will sue him and let you know how that goes.

The Paperwork from buying it says as -is but he assured me on the phone that car ran great repeatedly and had no issues. His ad on eBay and on his website said it ran great and had no issues as well and was reliable even! During the time it takes to sue him I will make sure to do all I can to let everyone know that J.J. Armstrong of South Car Motorsports LLC is a liar and clearly a disgusting person. All buyers or potential buyers should stay away from J.J. Armstrong and his dealership! I have all documentation and emails to prove every word of what I have stated.

Let me change one statement you made slightly but ever so importantly.

"So yes, BUYER BEWARE, customers should take any car from ANY DEALER to a reputable shop for a full inspection before they buy."

This is clearly a case of being ripped off. No matter what anyone says about the buyer not test driving the car, the dealership clearly tried to pull a fast one and succeeded. Never in history has anyone stuck up for a dealership over a disgruntled buyer, so good work JJ Armstrong with your minions coming to your rescue.

No one likes car dealers and obviously when the buyer told you of this report, a bunch of replies magically appeared. Only parties involved would care enough to respond. DUH I hope you know that your replies make you look super guilty and evil to the core.

If I were you, but thank god I’m not, I would have just denied the engine was blown, and not attack the victim. Whenever you attack the victim, you only embarrass yourself. Furthermore, if he sues, he can sue for all the flights, hotels, etc. Plus the fact you listed all that smugly, like you can’t be touched, would really sway a judge to have a negative opinion about you.

Not Looking Good for You

"I HAVE ALL EVIDENCE DOCUMENTED TO PROVE EVERY SINGLE WORD I SAID IS TRUE."

The only evidence you have is the mechanic’s statement as to the condition of the vehicle when it was brought in for service. That is not proof as to the condition of the vehicle when you received it. You have no evidence that the seller knew the engine had major problems at the time of sale.

A lawsuit will require that you file in Florida and a hearing may require an overnight stay at a later date. You may have to appear for a pretrial conference. You can expect to visit Florida at least twice or possibly three times. You may have to pay travel expenses for your mechanic.

A small claims action in Florida is for claims of $8000 or less. A large claims suit will be costly because you will need legal council. Your expenses will far exceed the 1-2% protection that I mentioned in an earlier post. It still remains unlikely that you will win due to the lack of real evidence and the as-is agreement.

You called us idiots but YOU are the one that bought the vehicle sight unseen without a test-drive.

How STUPID is it to be buying a used car, sight unseen??? Anybody with half a brain would NEVER do such an incredibly DUMB thing. Since everybody who responded to your lack of common sense and hit the nail directly and squarely on the head, you KNOW you have no intelligent rebuttal!

Your only response is "you must work for them" or some other sorry, stupid, immature response. Nobody here is doubting you received a piece of junk. Everybody here is in agreement what you did is incredibly stupid. That, my friend, is a VERY OBVIOUS FACT!

J.J. ARMSTRONGS EBAY AD

#18Author of original report

Mon, January 06, 2020

HERE IS THE AD THAT J.J. ARMSTRONG OF SOUTH CAR MOTORSPORTS RAN WHEN I FOUND AND BOUGHT CAR! I ALSO POSTED HIS OWN WEBSITE SHOWING HE SAID CAR HAD NO ISSUES. J.J. ARMSTRONG IS A LIAR AND CHEAT!!!

This Roadster combines classic looks, modern reliability, and the right components to create a one-of-a-kind Roadster that is equally at home on the Freeway or parked at Cruise night.

A Downs roadster body is covered in layers of House of Kolor Kandy Burgundy. Body is straight and clean, with no structural issues, and no damaged areas. Paint is nice, but will show blemishes from time when you start looking really close.

I have highlighted these areas in the 100 photos below, and encourage you to review them. There are some areas where the paint has blistered (NOT RUST when it’s fiberglass), a few small scuffs and scratches, and less than a handful of stone chips, mostly on the underside of the car.

It still turns heads with ease wherever you take it, and can be shown with pride at any car show or event. It just shows a few marks from being driven 16k miles!

A 383ci V8 is a mild built meant for ease of ownership, but is still fit with a functional tri-power setup, mild cam, and as much chrome and billet as you can ask for! I don’t have any paperwork to get into specifics on the build, so the only thing I can tell you is that it doesn’t leak or weep, starts up easily, idles cleanly, doesn’t smoke, and performs without issue.

It has some chrome and dress up items on it that look great, overall the engine shows really well. Aluminum radiator keeps things cool, and the car hovers around 197 as an operating temp. Transmission is a 350 Turbo with a stock build. It snicks into gear easily, and shifts up or down without any issues. Gearing is a freeway friendly set-up, allowing for 65-70 mph cruising, but I do not know what actual ratio is.

Power-coated frame from So-Cal and is fit with TCI components in the rear and a chromed Johnny Law axle beam up front. Front beam shows quite a bit of oxidation and pitting. It might steel wool out a little better, but right now it is evident. Same can be said with some light pitting and marks on the shocks and spindles too. It is all solid and fully functional though.

The undercarriage is clean, but would require some detailing and touch up to be placed over a mirror at a show. It is just a clean, well-maintained driver level chassis that performs 10 times better than it looks.

Inside, Tan leatherette is in great shape, and keeps the interior looking clean, while the iDidit Chrome column with tilt puts the wheel right where you want it. No rips, no tears, no seam pulls. Just a clean inside with finished rear and kick panels that all look great.

Dash is clean and nice, with a fully functional set of gauges to monitor vitals. A LOKAR shifter helps with gear selection, and PDA pedals finish it off. A full convertible top with side curtains keeps you dry in the occasional rainstorm, and is in very good condition. It even comes with a full tonneau cover for when the top is down.

Trunk is power actuated, and works perfectly. It has a small storage bag affixed to it for tools and a cleaning towel, and the rest of the trunk is just carpeted and finished like the interior.

Wheels are clean, and a professional polish could make them look even cleaner. Tires are a recent addition and have at least 80% of the usable tread life remaining. On the road, it drives great. Gets up to speed quick, handles great, doesn’t have that “sloppy” feel some cars get, and is very confidence inspiring on the road.

The lights work as they should, and all the electrical functions as it should too. There are no known issues at this time, and the car has been driven over 16k miles without any issues. If you want a clean, cool, daily-driver capable 32 Ford that has a track record of proven reliability worthy of taking a long road trip in, this is the car for you

Of course I have recourse you idiot. J.J. Armstrong lied to me and said it ran great with no issues!! He said so on his own website and on ebay ad!!! thats fraud and false advertising not to mention sleezy and disgusting. He dreams of hiding behind his as-is statement.

I am sure he has done this many times. Well now he will finally regret it as it will cost him. attached is all proof of what he said. J.J. ARMSTRONG IS A LIAR AND A CHEAT. You know it as well as you likely work for him or are him pretending to be some interested party which is pathetic.

The repair shop showed the damage to the dealer you idiot. Its not me saying it has no power.
- The repair shop showed the damage AFTER you bought the car. The only idiot is the idiot who spends 10's of thousands of dollars on a car and doesn't spend a few hundred dollars to have it checked-out BEFORE they buy the car.. That is what everyone of us is saying and apparently you aren't understanding.

Again this is likely JJ Armstrongs mom or some schlep or JJ himself as he is a coward liar.
- I think everyone here has been accused of being many people. But the mother of the person they are complaing about I do have to say I think is a first. Unfortunatly, though this just shows how little of a claim you have.

As it is SOP when something is posted that doesn't go along with your narrative to accuse them of somehow working for the person or being the person.  Where the only reason you do this is because you can't actually dispute what people are saying.  But the fact is this is a PUBLIC web site and as such the public can post. While this may be a shock, the public may not always agree with you.

Nice to know car dealers will never change

Yes, when you purchase a vehicle, you should look at it, but plenty of people buy vehicles from across country on websites like eBay ect. When you post it runs great with no problems, and you transport a car with a blown engine across country, that makes you one hellava special a$$hole.

If that's how this dealership conducts business, I hope this person sues the pants off of them, and gets awarded attorney fees. If he has the ad and proof that JJ Armstrong said it ran perfectly, no issues, that is false advertisement.

You can get all the signed as-is papers you want, but if you claim in writing on your website that the car was in perfect condition and the engine turns out to be blown, the dealership is fuct. Just like if JJ Armstrong said the car is black and a red car showed up, he can't claim as-is. And the people defending such lies and deceit are obviously people who work at the dealership, because there is no excusing liars and cheats.

I saw South Car Motorsports IG that he claimed this car was all that and a bag of chips. Are you sure you didn't leave that bag of chips in the cylinder heads? lol

I hope this dealership gets what's coming to them. So yes, BUYER BEWARE, customers should take any car from South Car Motorsports to a reputable shop for a full inspection before they buy. They are 100% not honest, and just hoping that you skip a step, so they can rip you off. What another embarrassment to the car industry. Pathetic...

He tries these fake rebutttals yet wont call me back or text back or any response at all after he says he will call me right away once repair shop sent him proof of damage!!! What a scumbag idiot. He will pay. beward of this scumbag!!!

Amazing

#18Consumer Comment

So you decide to buy a car that is going to be 10's of thousands of dollars.  Yet you don't spend a few hundred dollars to either go out and personally inspect it or pay someone local(perhaps from a local hot rod club in Florida) to do it.

You don't even ask for a cell phone video of the car with the engine running. As I said AMAZING on how stupid some people can be.

I have no idea if this dealer ripped you off, but if they did...YOU let them do it.

Your problem is that you bought the car "As-Is" and that is what is in the paperwork. You can say that he told you it runs with no issues..etc. But for a 1932 car what exactly does that mean? You admit yourself that you were able to start it and drive it to a mechanic. Yes it took longer to idle and not as much power as YOU think it should.  But the fact that you were able to do that does not help your claim. You would have to prove that the dealer knew the engine was bad. But if they are like most dealers they don't go looking for problems. They aren't going to take it to a mechanic that may tell them there is an engine issue. They are going to start it up, drive it and tell you that it works great.

Good Luck and enjoy your classic.

You just had to have THAT car, right? Your tongue was hanging out so much for THAT car that you sent off your money to somebody you don't know to buy this thing which you never saw, never test driven or checked over. Don't talk about the virtues of trust becsuse TRUST is applied ONLY after you have a track record with the person you are trusting. You just had to have THAT car so much that you threw CONMON SENSE out the window! There are few things more STUPID than buying a USED CAR, sight unseen via the Internet but when it comes to a dumb car, so many of you do incredibly stupid things. Oh yes, now's the time to write back, "you must work for them"!

"So I was not able to look at car in person or hear in person."

That is an incorrect statement. You CHOSE not to inspect or test-drive the 88-year-old car. A round trip (Sacramento to Fort Myers to Sacramento) plane ticket would have cost about $600. If you paid 30K-$50K for the car, the plane ticket would have been an additional cost of 1-2% to protect your investment.

You have no recourse because the as-is agreement means that you agreed to accept the vehicle with all faults in its present condition.

Happy motoring!
