I was recently a victim of fraud and dishonesty in leasing a new 2008 Infiniti EX35 from South London Infiniti Nissan. I want to share my experience with others so that they do not become a victim of fraud from this dealership and in particular one of their sales consultants, Lukas Jakubowski. This is long, but definately worth reading.

During the discussions and negotiations around financing at South London Infiniti Nissan, I dealt directly with a sales consultant named Mr. Lukas Jakubowski. After taking delivery of the vehicle, I have subsequently learned that Lukas Jakubowski was fraudulent in his dealings with me as he provided me fabricated information on two occasions.

The following provides further details. It is important to note that the pricing for the 2008 Infiniti EX 35 was not yet posted on the Infiniti Canada website during the time I was negotiating the financial arrangements. These pricing details were made available on the website four days after taking delivery of the vehicle.

First, the deal that I had agreed with Lukas Jakubowski was that I would pay the MSRP of the vehicle ($50,000) plus $3,000 for the early termination of my lease from a 2005 Nissan Altima ($2,000 paid on delivery and $1,000 absorbed in the monthly payments of the lease). I have an email from Lukas Jakubowski confirming this deal in writing. Subsequently, I have learned that the cost I was charged for the early termination of my lease was $5,345.

At the time I took delivery at South London Infiniti Nissan of the Infiniti EX 35 the leasing contract did not detail the amount of I was paying to terminate my lease early. The complete cost was listed as a total under Leased Vehicle Amount on the contract as $55.345.43. I asked Lukas Jakubowski to provide me an explanation of the difference from the $53,000 and the amount on the contract. He informed me that this difference was for freight and PDE and some lease administration costs. The subsequent price listed on the Infiniti website is $50,000 (including freight and PDE). In short, Lukas Jakubowski misrepresented my early lease termination costs for my 2005 Altima by $2,345.43. This has been confirmed by the dealership through Todd Bennett, New Car Sales Manager at South London Infiniti Nissan.

Secondly, during my decision process, I asked Lukas Jakubowski to provide me the price per month (inc. tax) if I was leasing the Infiniti EX 35 with 0 money down and not terminating my Altima lease early. The figure Lukas provided me was $913 per month. This figure was an important factor for me in deciding to proceed with the EX at this point. The subsequent pricing I received on the Infiniti website is $856.95 per month.

Lukas Jakubowski is required under the Motor Vehicle Dealers Act to conduct himself with honesty, integrity, financial responsibility and in accordance with law. I was extremely distressed to learn that he clearly conducted himself unethically and fraudulently.

During the decision making process, it was important that I was receiving accurate information with respect to my questions around the price of the vehicle. The outcome of my decision to lease the vehicle would have been different if I was provided the accurate information.

I worked with the New Car Sales Manager, Todd Bennett, at South London Infiniti Nissan to settle this issue. To help compensate me, the dealership has agreed to provide me snow tires at cost. As well, they have agreed to donate the amount of Lukas Jakubowski's commission ($320) to The Nissan Foundation in my name. This still does not compensate me for the total amount of my loss.

I have been informed by Todd Bennett that Lukas Jakubowski will be sent for retraining. I am concerned that the dealership is not dealing with Mr. Jakubowski's actions appropriately as this is not an issue of improper training.

Lukas Jakubowski is still employed by South London Infiniti Nissan and continues act as one of their sales consultants. They have clearly expressed to me that they do not support Lukas Jakubowski's behavior. If this is true, he should no longer be employed by the dealership.

I have expressed my concerns about Lukas Jakubowski and South London Infiniti Nissan in a letter to Mr. Allan Smerek, Director, Infiniti Dealer Operations at Nissan Canada. Mr. Smerek has not responded as of yet. If he does, I will provide in an update.

I DO NOT recommend that anyone deal with Lukas Jakubowski. He is very fraudulent and dishonest in his dealings. If you do choose to ignore my suggestion. PLEASE!!! be very cautious when dealing with Lukas Jakubowski, get things in writing and BE CAREFUL! Please pass this along to others!

I read your report and it is unfortunate that you were treated this way, but again I am not surprised. I did not work with Lucas but I know that South London Infiniti Nissan has employed a lot of sales people over the past couple of years and they can not seem to hold on to good people and basically hire any Tom, d**k of Harry that comes off the street. The reason they do this is South London Infiniti Nissan has one of the worst reputations in London for how their employees are treated which trickles down to how there customers are treated. You said that the dealership said they do not condone what Lucas does, however if you look on the website he is now been promoted to a Business Manager who works with financials and numbers everyday. For a person who is fraudulent in selling cars, he now has one of the key roles in a dealership looking after financials and finalizing paperwork. You were basically given lip service from the owner, saying he doesn't condone his actions.

It is unfortunate that South London Infiniti Nissan has this reputation in the city, there have been some fine people work there over the years, but the numbers do not lie. It is a fact that the dealership has one of worst Customer Service Indexes in Canada for Sales and Service. I believe that only Woodchester Nissan in Mississauga is consistently worse then South London, and that is for Nissan and Infiniti. Their index scoring has been at the bottom of the all Canada wide dealerships for the past 5 years. South London Nissan years ago before the new management came into place was regarded an above avg scoring dealer, but the downward trend has continued with no improvement in sight.

To conclude, Nissan and Infiniti vehicles are quality cars that I highly recommend to anyone, however I would recommend that you find a dealer that ranks hight in Customer Satisfaction for your purchase. The car is only factor in the purchase, and South London lacks everything that is positive in a buying experience.
