Southern New Hampshire University SNHU Be Careful. Bait and Switch Hooksett New Hampshire

I used to love this school. I told everyone who listened just how great Southern New Hampshire University was. I had no problems with One Stop Financial Aid and I loved my advisors. Well, let's just say that I see the school for the scam it is now. Southern New Hampshire uses Pearson My Lab technology that makes learning easy and enjoyable. Pearson must be very expensive since it isn't open to the general public. One must have a teacher's code in order to register for this brilliant learning tool. Apparently Southern New Hampshire University realizes its value. That is why it is only available for the first five or six classes and then, as you get into the higher graduate courses, it is unavailable. Instead, an instructor asks you to answer the questions in the back of the textbook. Instantly, the student goes from assisted learning to a sink-or-swim style of learning. Complaints about the textbook are ignored. Assignments are graded, but due to fear of cheating, professors aren't allowed to provide detailed solutions to the problems in the book. As a result, the student is left wondering where he went wrong, and pleas for help are ignored. The school is so worried that I might pass out the answers to another student, that they won't help us understand the work. I am disgusted with this school.

Issues seem to be with course curriculum

I had a similar issue and also attend SNHU. I spoke with my professor at length, and she said it was a curriculum and syllabus issue and we talked at length. It seems that the professor was not allowed to structure her own curriculum, and that it was typical for colleges to do that. She said it was hard to be a professor that way.

Please review what happened, and try to talk to that professor again. They may be as frustrated as you are.

It is funny how you called my under-grad work Mickey Mouse classes when you did the same work, albeit probably a different major meaning different classes.  So my classes are Mickey Mouse classes are your classes during your undergrad career are somehow more important?  My main point was asking how it was a bait and switch when you never stated that Pearson was going to be available for every class.  Good luck looking for sympathy when you verbally attack people asking questions.

You are so far off the mark...

What do you think would happen to SNHU's profits if the MBA foundation courses didn't offer Pearson? Do you honestly think the school has never heard my complaints before? Do you think that I am the first student to take 6 classes straight and spend 11,286 dollars before finding out that professors won't provide the same guidance as Pearson? I bet you think that SNHU doesn't pull reports or read surveys. I bet you think that SNHU doesn't know why students drop out. SNHU knows what they are doing. If they got rid of Pearson tomorrow, their revenue would plummet. Had there been no Pearson SNHU would have earned 1881 from me. That is ONE class. That is $9405 less than what they earned.

I asked my professor to explain why my homework assignment question was incorrect. After three emails, I received step by step clarification and I was WARNED that I was the only one he sent the detailed solutions to and I'd better not leak it online. How crazy is it to want detailed explanations on your graded homework?? Are you on a different planet?

Let me tell you about Smartthinking Tutoring...they can't help you with Quantitative Analysis or any of the Graduate level Finance classes. Let me tell you about personal tutors with MS degrees or MBAs in Finance...they charge from 50 dollars and hour to 210 dollars an hour. If I am paying a tutor 50 dollars an hour then why in the HELL am I paying SNHU 1,881.00 per class?

You seem like the type who jumps to conclusions about people you know nothing about. I'm glad that Smartthinking can help you with your Mickey Mouse classes. After your earn your Mickey Mouse undergrad degree, let me know how those graduate classes work out.

FYI, I plan on taking the GMAT in a month and I will transfer to CSU Dominguez Hills, a reputable school.

So how is this exactly a rip-off?  Nowhere in your original post did it state that Pearson would be offered in every class that you take.  I am an undergrad at SNHU, online, and I personally hate it when Pearson is offered; but I understand why SNHU uses it at times.  Also, you stated that the professors won't help due to potential cheating on the student's part.  That my friend sounds like B.S. to me.  Why wouldn't a professor help you?  Something tells me that you are asking the wrong kinds of questions to the professor.  There have been several times that I would send a paper to a professor for guidance because I did not like the help that I received from the tutoring service and the professors were more than happy to help me.  Have you even tried the tutoring service to help you out?  I'm guessing no because you are just to busy.  Guess what, that is on you if that is the case.  You have options available to you, and just decide to complain on a public forum.
